Chinese tourism obliterated, but not to worry they'll be back at the double later, says minister

Nonsense.

When one vacation, rarely does it crop into their mind "oh that neighbouring country treated us well, i shall go visit".

They come to Thailand because of the climate, 'cheapness', etc

I'm from the UK. Like millions of others, we enjoy going to Europe, be it Germany, France, Italy - never does it even enter ones mind 'oh those pesky Germans, let's boycott these beer festivals'.

It will be the same for the Chinese. Once this is over, they will go on holidays as usual. If they can afford Japan, Korea, Singapore, then they will go there, regardless of whether during a virus outbreak those countries weren't seeming to lick their governments <deleted>.

In saying all this then, it does beg the question why Thailand hasn't just gone ahead and introduced a temporary Ban on visitors from China, like others. Loyalty won't play a part in anyones vacation.

Furthermore, the Chinese tourism industry will return in force.

There is many months still ahead before this peaks.

Whatever numbers China are giving, best to times that by 10.

It will take this virus just as long to come back down, before it is really OK to travel. At least 4 months away. Also, if you allow travel too soon with this virus you just start all over again.

Whatever money you might make or double in the future, does NOTHING to fill your belly now and pay your house payment.

Winter has come to Thailand!

This will mean a year round shortfall of 300 billion baht,  reported the media.

Barely?

3,000?

Is that the approximate number arriving each day? Or the total number currently in country?

They sound like unsubstantiated figures posted without supporting links or sources and will no doubt be deleted shortly or risk being prosecuted under the new law prohibiting the spread of fake news.

Well whatever the government thinks about the loss of revenue from the Chinese tourists, there are some unarguable positives coming from the current situation.

Fewer airplanes, buses, boats and taxis belching fumes into an atmosphere which in recent weeks has already had dreadful air quality. It won't fix the problem, of course, but it can't hurt.

Many fewer tourists using the country's limited water resources in the middle of a very bad period of drought. Again, it won't fix the problem, but it can't hurt.

And it's a win for the world, China is far and away the largest emitter of greenhouse gases, and almost all of its tourists will fly to Thailand.

Can anyone think of more wins or positive points (other than the obviously racist ones, lol)?

"Thailand's embattled minister for tourism and sports has told the Thai media that tourists from China have all but stopped coming to Thailand.

But he has said that in the second half of the year twice as many as usual will flood back to Thailand."

Oh, that's all right then, I'll tell my bank manager that everything will be OK!

That's what doctors also tells you about gentile herpes...

Is "gentile" herpes the sort that you catch from a "non believer"?

Or maybe you meant a less severe ("gentle"?) infection?
