Chinese tourism obliterated, but not to worry they'll be back at the double later, says minister

That is quite a statement to make. Current events are the sort of thing which are likely when the dust settles, to make people think much harder about where they are going to go, and identify potential dangers. If that does occur, Thailand may be lucky to get back half, let alone return to normal, or hit what would be a truly amazing doubling of numbers.

These people are ego maniacs and do not care about Thais well being

It's time for the Thai Government to stop all incoming flights from lying, evil, communist China immediately! If I get sick here, there will be hell to pay!!!

Interesting! What will you do, Georgie?

But he has said that in the second half of the year twice as many as usual will flood back to Thailand.

Then the Thais can get back some of the expected 300 billion baht in lost revenues.

Oh, that's all right then, I'll tell my bank manager that everything will be OK!

This maybe exactly the point?

Business Thailand must at all costs keep the value of the baht high. So need to maintain an illusion no matter how.

And it's comments like this that makes me want to see the entire tourism industry obliterated in Thailand.

What?

Why do you want to see tourism obliterated from Thailand? Why not , say, Iceland?

What a stupid statement.

What had tourism in Thailand got to do with you?

Why are you so concerned?

How much did she take you for?

Well whatever the government thinks about the loss of revenue from the Chinese tourists, there are some unarguable positives coming from the current situation.

Fewer airplanes, buses, boats and taxis belching fumes into an atmosphere which in recent weeks has already had dreadful air quality. It won't fix the problem, of course, but it can't hurt.

Many fewer tourists using the country's limited water resources in the middle of a very bad period of drought. Again, it won't fix the problem, but it can't hurt.

And it's a win for the world, China is far and away the largest emitter of greenhouse gases, and almost all of its tourists will fly to Thailand.

Can anyone think of more wins or positive points (other than the obviously racist ones, lol)?

Yes, I can.

The percentage of whining per head of foreigners should drop substantially when the Chinese return. Which they will.

Does he understand mass and volume flow?  So they will now fit twice as many people into the same number of rooms?  Maybe check with the Indians for advice.  Just another fallacy on tourist numbers.  When Westerners come and visit, I think you will find we typically or statistically do not cram five of us into a room.  We come in pairs with buddies or mates, or singly, get our own rooms etc.  Whereas a group of other tourists coming for a cheap vacation or to save money, may all share one room perhaps with double beds, roll in carts, cheap futon on the floor, etc..  Just a hypothesis.   Not even mentioning the infrastructure of the airport, buses, etc.

Excellent news. Just make sure no boat accidents happen and 49 Chinese tourists drown a la The Phoenix. If that happens, you are in deep excrement mr. minister. BTW are you wearing your mask today?!.

Non applicable percentage. Chinese do not comment on this forum. However the number of complaints about Chinese is going to increase. Maybe you should visit Pattaya so as to understand what the complaints are about.

Whether this was based on any scientific analysis or was just a throwaway comment, the media did not elaborate, notes Thaivisa.

It was a Tourism Ministry announcement - it's not been thrown away, just taken from the bin and recycled!

That man is delusional. Sad.

In most other countries a position held in such an important department would ensure the person in control was a trained, competent professional, with a deep knowledge of the world market, with sound marketing and strategy skills. This one stop wonder would have been side-lined months ago by any other country, what's sad is that here, this is the norm for a leader!

From 30,000 Chinese visitors a day there are now barely 3,000.

Thailand shouldn't expect too many of them, China it's up for a bumpy ride, people start to complain about their government lack of information and some already posting messages for the Chinese government to stop censorship and allow for free speech ...
