Bangkok, 07 February 2020 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is pleased to announce that the Honda LPGA Thailand 2020 will take place as scheduled from 20 to 23 February with heightened health and safety measures amid global concern on the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV).

Honda Automobile (Thailand) Co., Ltd. in partnership with IMG recently confirmed their readiness to host the event at the Siam Country Club Pattaya, Old Course, Chon Buri province with a total purse of US$ 1.6 million (approximately 53 million Baht).

TAT Governor Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn said, “We are delighted to confirm that the Honda LPGA Thailand 2020 will take place as scheduled. This event is a major tournament that is respected globally, and both the players and Thai fans are looking forward to the event.”

The Honda LPGA Thailand 2020 will feature 70 female golfers, including 56 professionals from the 2020 LPGA Priority List. They include Jeongeun Lee and defending champion Amy Yang from South Korea, Nasa Hataoka,  Hinako Shibuno and Mone Inami from Japan, Nelly and Jessica Korda from USA, Jodi Ewart Shadoff from England, Ashleigh Buhai from South Africa as well as Shanshan Feng, Yu Liu and Muni He from China.

Thai fans can enjoy cheering on Thailand’s iconic golfers including Ariya “May” Jutanugarn, Moriya “Mo” Jutanugarn, and Thidapa “Junior” Suwannapura, Pornanong “Wan” Phatlum, Patty “Meao” Tavatanakit, Atthaya “Jean” Thitikul, and the winner of the recently concluded Honda LPGA Thailand National Qualifiers, Rina Tatematsu.

To safeguard players and fans against the 2019-nCoV, IMG has put together a comprehensive ‘coronavirus action plan’ to ensure safety and security for all.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity also continues to be an integral part of the tournament with its Charity Night. One highlight is the charity auction, which will see autographed memorabilia donated by top players and auctioned off to the highest bidders. All proceeds will go to the tournament’s long time charity alliance with the Siriraj Foundation plus the betterment of the Baan Mab Fag Thong School in Chon Buri.

In addition to the golfing action, there will be many activities for spectators to enjoy. Golf fans should look out for the chance to compete with the professional golfers in “Beat the Pro”; Mums and Dads can drop their kids off at the all new Kids Zone; there will be an assortment of food and good music in the Chill Zone.

Another key feature this year is the ‘Green Village’ a new sustainable space that will have interactive and informative booths focussed on helping to improve the environment. All participants and attendees are asked to reduce single-use plastics and properly separate trash. Other ‘Green’ initiatives at the tournament include the use of biodegradable utensils and food packaging plus a composting machine which turns all organic and food waste into fertiliser.

The Honda LPGA Thailand 2020 is organised by IMG with Asian Honda Motor Co., Ltd. and Honda Automobile (Thailand) Co., Ltd as the title sponsor, and supported by many partners including TAT, the Sports Authority of Thailand, National Sports Development Fund (NSDF), Bangkok Bank Public Company Limited, Betagro Group, Siam Daikin Sales Co., Ltd,       EVA Airways Corporation, Siam GS Sales Co., Ltd and Siam Country Club.
