Didn't Egyptians use honey on cuts. Apparently bacteria can't survive in honey.

Bacteria can't survive in alcohol over 50 to 60 percent. Viruses can't survive in 90 percent alcohol.

Whiskey and honey seems a good mix.

My treatment also includes zinc from seeds available in cheap packets at 7-11.

Often the case with the elderly or infirm. Secondary bacterial infection can be rapid and uncontrollable even with IV antibiotic intervention.

We do the same in Brittany.
We replace the whiskey with calvados (farm, artisanal preferably which title much more than that sold in the trade - 40* max , kind 50 to 60 *);
In fact we are doing what we call "burning alcohol";
50% water and 50% calvados in a saucepan, boil it and set fire to the vapors of calva;
we wait until it goes away on its own, add honey and drink as hot as possible;
then we go to bed under 3 blankets; all night long we sweat; sometimes you have to change your night clothes so they are soaked but the next morning you are brand new ...
