Thai Girlfriend Going To Penang

Featured Replies

My girlfriend and I are living in Phuket. We both work here, I'm excited about the new airline Firefly that will offer direct flights to Penang Malaysia. I want to take her for vacation, but she dosen't have a passport. Does she need one? Does she need a visa, can I get that in Phuket? I wonder because it's a bordering country, and I've seen Thai's in Laos just showing their Thai ID cards at immagration. Any help would be great! Thanks a bunch!

It is my understanding that Thai citizens can cross the land border on a border pass on production of

an ID card , but cannot travel farther. Penang by air would require a passport.

No visa should be required for a short stay.

passport , yes

visa , no

So take her to Song Khla first and get her a passport, its only a little over B1000 and will be returned to her in Phuket by courier within a week.
