I’m having a little trouble with my network, maybe my router, a D-link DIR-842 - I purchased it a few years back, I was recommended it by the Synology distributor, because it had gigabit speed and MU-MIMO.

I now have around 35 devices connected to it, mostly 2.4GHz band and have never experienced any issue up to last week. Every now and again the 5GHz network fails, and restarts.

I am not too sure why the 5GHz network is tipping over when most of the kit is on 2.4, but I work online, I need to maintain a stable connection.

I use apple HomeKit, and I’m thinking about upgrading my router, to a HomeKit router - i know at the moment it’s only eero that offers the service, Linksys is expected to roll it out on the velop line soon.

Is anyone else using WiFi6 mesh system, an eero or vero system? Maybe ubiquiti? Do you notice any performance improvements in service?

D-link DIR-842 is not a WiFi6 router. It's up to 802.11ac protocol standard, which is WiFi5. WiFi6 is the new 802.11ax protocol. D-link  DIR-6060 as an example is a WiFi6 (802.11ax). Not many devices support that.

DIR-842 does not support WiFi mesh, so I'm not sure what you are talking about.

Yeah, im looking to can the old router (D-link DIR-842) and move up to Wifi6 .. Just wondering if anyone has upgraded to Wifi6 - Are they worth the extra expense? I looked at the bottom of the range Linksys HomeKit router and they are around 11-16K.

Personally, I'm not ready to embrace 802.11ax. Just doesn't buy me anything extra. I'm running my WiFi network on 802.11ac and that's plenty bandwidth for the devices that are on it. Thinking of going for ASUS Blue Cave router though, and mesh my current ASUS RT-AC68U, to get a better 5GHz coverage. My house is kind of weird and the 5GHz signal disappears quickly.

You might want to check up PIB's excellent write-up on his WiFi6 setup and what to expect.
