PHUKET:-- A 48-year-old man from Michigan was rescued late yesterday (Mar 2) after he spent six hours lost in jungle on Phuket’s west coast while trying to walk from Nai Yang Beach to Nai Thon Beach just a handful of kilometres away.

Maj Ekkachai Siri said he was notified of the man’s plight at 3pm by officers answering the Tourist Police hotline 1155.

The man, David Raymond Mitchell, had tried to walk along the coast from Nai Yang Beach to Nai Thon Beach.

Lost for 6 hours between beaches! Lol.  I love Americans.

Lost or just did not know exactly where he was?  North south East west, sun over there, ocean on my right.  No sense of direction at all?  Probably dumbed down and used to his gps smart phone telling him when to turn. Has no idea where he is at any given moment, just blindly following directions like a lemming

It can happen to anyone except maybe the expert survivalist who only walk between the toilet and their barstool.

that could mean at least ninety percent of TVF ... Lol

Getting lost and being able to make a cell phone call for help. Welcome to the 21st century.

Now if he'd set his Google maps timeline to record history in pedestrian mode. ..

A post revealing personal information has been removed.

The real experts combine the two.

Not making excuses for this idiot, but it is impossible to follow the coast between the two beaches and there is a lot of jungle on the headland.

Combine this with lack of water and knowledge of the terrain and you got a potential catastrophe!

Book smart (he's a lawyer), but not street smart.

Best he comes on the Hash next time and follows paper.

... or the beer fumes ????

lost 10 minutes walk from the beach?  used his cellphone to call for help?

he could have downloaded a freakin' compass app for his smart phone to use with the google maps that has satellite view with current location.

why does this remind me of the guy in indonesia who got bit by his pet cobra when taken out of the cage for a bath and photo session?  instead of calling for help, he took photos of the bite to post on his facebook.

the human race is doomed.

He didn't realize there were 711s only a few meter away in the jungle?

Phuket has jungles?

Only really one of any size that you normally would get lost in , and it is not near any beach. It is on an mountain ridge in the middle of Thalang district.

Tourists have got lost here and spent the night with cobras and pythons. Nearly 50 different species of snake including King Cobra there if you want to get lost in that jungle. lol
