Vocational centre closes, leaving students empty-handed

Students of a shuttered vocational skills centre in Ratchaburi have gone to the police complaining that they’ve been cheated out of the graduation certificates they need to get jobs.

The students were at Crime Suppression Division headquarters on Wednesday (March 4) informing the centre's matter.

And now they’ve got no graduation documents to show prospective employers.

Suchada Krahothong, one of the students, took the matter to the provincial police late last month when she learned the centre had closed.

She’s also asked the Education Ministry why it was not certified.

Suchada said tuition cost Bt2,000 per month, the money to be paid into a teacher’s bank account.

“There are these kinds of centres in several provinces,” she said, “so plenty of people stand to be hurt like this.

“I want the government to find out the truth about the centre and prosecute the people involved for fraud.”

The students are still getting demands for tuition payments even after the closure, she said.

This is potentially going it happen in Mae Sot as well and two of the migrant schools may be shutting down on top of that.

Sad times.

the money to be paid into a teacher’s bank account.

Last place I would do business with, not even a company account!

So, they are complaining about not getting a certificate from an uncertified teacher/school that would not be accepted by employers who checked out that the teacher/school was uncertified ?
