Deputy Director-General of the Department of Disease Control (DDC) Dr Kajohnsak Kaewjarus flew from Bangkok to face the press in Phuket today and still refused to confirm whether or not the Chinese national in Phuket had tested positive for COVID-19. Photo: Tanyaluk Sakoot

PHUKET:-- The Deputy Director-General of the national Department of Disease Control (DDC) Dr Kajohnsak Kaewjarus, flew to Phuket from Bangkok today only to refuse to confirm or deny whether a Chinese tourist in Phuket had contracted the COVID-19 coronavirus as confirmed by a report issued by the DDC last month.

Dr Kajohnsak today (Mar 4) instead would only say that the information in the report was unreliable. He would not elaborate on which parts of the report were considered accurate.

The report had been uploaded online by the Bangkok Metropolitan Authority, but was later pulled down. Copies of the report posted online since the beginning of the week have since gone viral on Thai social media.

more jibber-jabber from a government 'authority'

"Dr Kajohnsak today (Mar 4) instead would only say that the information in the report was unreliable. He would not elaborate on which parts of the report were considered accurate".

"As for the leaked “pink” report for Feb 12, the “unreliable” report includes all the exact same information as featured in the final “blue” report for Feb 12 – except that the “blue” report features no information at all about any of the patients in Thailand who have tested positive for the virus".

<<Big sigh>> ....thanks for the timely update Dr.

Declines  to  confirm. Doubts? Corona Virus. Which  one? Common cold?

Let reality reign ! Not  Media  hype !

Corvid-19 is  amongst  us...undeniable.....highest risk is to  your  elderly . Not  the  stroppy younger or  small children if reasonable  self  care is taken.

Worry as  much  if  not  more  about the myriad of other things  that can infect and  destroy the body instead of  the infectious  paranoia that is  devouring  your  minds!

still lying to the public so no change there then,  as someone noted before confirmed cases at 43 for days now, anyone with a brain cell does not believe a word they say now,  a simple yes or no would have sufficed, even if it was a lie lol,

there is a lot of difference between the so called pink report and the blue report.. they're an entirely different color for crying out loud

The Deputy Director General  bungled this media event  badly. The intent of a press conference is to provide clear and reliable information, not to obfuscate and erode public confidence.

COVID-19 was sooooo last year

They should ask to see COVID-20

Anyway. Just wait a little bit... And the good doctor will end in History's garbage bin.

Branded for ever as liar, lazy, paranoid, small bureaucrat, obsessive etc.

Along with a solid dose of lost face.

If this gobbledegook is repeated at hospitals throughout Thailand then there's absolutely no way that accurate figures are ever going to be released.

Regardless of the number of cases, Thailand is not exactly coming up smelling of roses right now.

The more they deny or refuse to comment, the more it makes me think there is a lot more they are not telling us.

Does anyone know exactly how many cases Thailand really has?

The girl who I bought my Kwai Tiao from at lunchtime reckons 42. As that seems to agree with the official government figure I've no reason to doubt her.

I am one of. Worry? Better to make contingency plans than to simply worry. Wake up to the fact that Corvid-19 is not a singular community infection of equal risk to those with pre-existing health issues old or young. Only more specific to those.

Influenza  variants,  viral pneumonia, bacterial pneumonia all circulate within communities.

The same precautions should be applied as  risk is equal. Do/have  people taken as a matter of precaution?

The  reality is  that in the  event of suffering a respiratory illness that causes distress then the sufferer  should seek intervention especially if  compromised  with underlying  health  conditions. Despite previously having any  precautionary vaccinations for various things it is no guarantee, although assistive.

Keep it in perspective.

In terms of  Health systems  there is more concern as to the  impact  of "yet another" infectious disease to cope with rather than any really significant mortality rate overall.

A further reality is that due to the induced awareness that although it will/is exacerbating demand on health resources that in spite of Corvid-19 the mortality  rate from influenza etc will be reduced as a  consequence due to patient presentation for intervention.

most of us would expect medical professionals to tell the truth - that is "probably" far from it - there is likely a sinister group of people that control pretty much everything - people are probably told what to say under some serious threat, that could be all fine and good if the people in control actually had a clue what they were doing - they very obviously don't, we seem to have a collective of totally stupid running this country - I could be wrong but the evidence may suggest otherwise

At least in China the government seem to be doing all the right things and are showing some collective responsibility - it seems Thailand are not able to do the same

Of course I could be wrong

Oh and the "fake news" squad in Thailand is not what most reasonable people would understand it to be - say something whether right or wrong and you will be arrested if it doesn't fit with the program - that is a whole big step into police state not democracy and free speech, shut your mouth or you will be arrested and locked away - is that what Thailand has become ?

In my own humble opinion, the fact that the UK now has twice the amount of virus as Thailand and has maybe 80% less Chinese, Korean and Iranian tourists, that the virus is exploding more in Europe (thinking of Italy) has considerably less people working in hotspots, speaks volumes of a severe cover up

Cases in Isaan have been reported by hospital staff at two different hospitals. These cases, four that I know of, have not been added to the countrywide tally. I suspect that these four cases are only a small number of cases not being reported. The government could better serve the public with accurate information.

Some want to believe the warm weather help but the reality is that we have no idea yet.

Right on, why should we give a toss about the elderly or any of the other at risk groups? We are far superior to those second rate types. As long as we are okay there is no need to  even try to stop the spread of this purifying virus. It's like climate change - why worry? I'll be dead before it affects me much - leave it for our kids to sort it. Anyway, they are obviously both just conspiracies designed to enrich the real beings in power who are all aliens.

Indeed, what they are doing in Isaan amounts to acknowledging an unexpected uptick in H1N1 and “as we have identified it as H1N1 we don’t need to test for Corona”.

This within the last 2 days for 4 people close to me in Korat.

This is how a police state wary of destroying tourism might go about covering things up.

Or it could just be little outbreaks of H1N1. How would one really know in Thailand?

A refusal to confirm or deny is always a confirm. Thai gov are hiding the truth, trying to avoid any economic fallout. Lying to the world to selfishly protect their own interests.

The Phuket mafia bosses wont allow the truth on anything to come out in case it affects profits.

Do they really expect us to believe that the 40+ cases officially reported here in Thailand is correct? There was an article I read recently by some eminent academic professors who said that given the millions of Chinese (and other Asian visitors) visitors to Thailand shortly before and since the outbreak the figure of 40+ is statistically impossible when you compare it to other countries with much larger infections aka Italy, Iran etc.

Im sure many guys on TVF dotted around the country will have info about different cases as we know we cant post it here in fear of being arrested and the amount of tourist that come and go in Phuket do they mean not one case has been found?

He refuses to clarify. Well, until things are clear, maybe thats the best option.

Ssssure. The farang has invaluable first hand facts that could shake the nation  but too scared to post it so instead they post hyperbolic dribble gossip conspiracy theories and the usual "thai officials are incompetent idiots" blablabla kind of stuff. Mass hysteria.
