Cheaper gasoline expected as shifts in oil price reflected at pumps

Channel 7 reported that consumers can expect cheaper gasoline prices at pumps today as lower oil prices are passed onto consumers.

They said that motorists were already filling their tanks.

There were huge falls in the price of oil on Monday as Saudi Arabia and Russia went on a price war amid falling demand due to the coronavirus.

The Thai media expected most gasoline to be 60 satang cheaper and E85 to be 40 satang cheaper. It was the second fall in two days.

In other news they reported a rise of 1.2% in Thai stocks amid trading volume of 74 billion baht.

The price of gold bars was at 24,700 and jewelry at 25,200 they said.

About an hour ago I filled up the pick-up and 3 drums at Esso Wang Sai Phun and it was 24.12/L which seems a bit rich given the dramatic drop in crude price.

Oil goes down 30%, petrol price down 60 satang doesn't make sense especially when it has low tax included unlike in Europe. Maybe someone knows why?

Taxes are lower than in super high tax countries like Germany.

But taxing or preferences vary much depending on fuel type and not nearly tax free.

Extreme cases:

Pure Benzene/Petrol, ex. refinery 9.6889 B/l, retail 30.36.

E85, ex. refinery 19.379725, retail 17.29.

And the so called "oil fund" is the political steering mechanism.

Adjusted by the season.

I am also on E20 but bet it will slightly more than 20 Baht.

The further from the eastern seaboard the more expensive.

The prices in my above post reflect another price reduction as of today.

All except Diesel.

Barrel of oil has dropped over 30% in cost and PTT gives us 60 satang off? Spare me, why bother just more useless small coins I cant read the value of.

Do you buy your fuel in a 1 litre bottle at a time?

60 satang per litre or 6฿ for 10 litres or 30฿ for 50 litres.

Tell the gas station that you want to pay the older more expensive price.

My fuel (E20) has gone down about 19% since mid January.

And why it is not 30% see above (post #6).

A 40l filling down from about 950 to 770.

Hopefully this social distancing we stay and people will shy away from public transportation when the world kicks into gear again

More cars on the road baby!

fuel20200423.jpg

Road trips every weekend for the last month or so and less pollution, rain has just started, everything is lush and its so cheap to get to. 400km round trip cost me about 300baht!

And just a note about "low taxes".

Taxes and other contributions vary extremely between the different fuels.

All politics/policy/steering.

The pure petrol/benzene that is sold for 24.36 Baht cost about 5.5 Baht ex-refinery.

E85 on the other hand is sold for less than the price ex-refinery!

I am envy. Must be far from here.

Oil prices have dropped to record low levels. Even with taxes taken into consideration, pump prices should be at least 20-30% lower than we see right now. PTT and the feds are making a fortune on this historic drop in oil prices.

Good, but can we get real petrol instead of low density, fuel line eating, easily fouling ethanol.

Out of the bigger cities pumps with petrol/benzene have become rare but still exist.

The closest for me is 25km! A Susco pump.

At PTT it might come back at more stations in autumn when finally the obsolete gasohol 91 is finally abolished?

Currently many stations simply don't have enough tanks to hold up to four(!) different Diesel variants plus the rest. Four Diesel variants, stupid as can be.

You can get petrol, but for a price. Extremely taxed from ~5.5 Baht to 24.36 Baht.

No! be satisfied with burnt sugar cane, they didn't build all the new ethanol plants for nothing!

PTT 95 Benzene as they call it here is the nearest thing to "real petrol"
