The conflation of Covid-19 with seasonal flu is TOTALLY BOGUS.

 

Why?

 

The entire human population has zero resistance to Covid-19.

 

The most optimistic data (out of South Korea which credit to them has done massive testing) shows Covid-19 fatality rates at least TEN TIMES higher than seasonal flu and it could be much higher than that.

 

This virus does have the potential to infect the majority of humans in a very short time (without aggressive efforts to slow it down). This virus is EXTREMELY infectious. Unchecked cases rise in an EXPONENTIAL manner. 

 

So at least a .5 percent (and possibly much higher) death rate for the majority of humans. Do the math. Not to mention societies and medical systems will totally break down if the masses of sick people happen over a short time period.

I think it's because of more than just the virus. For decades the global community has had the benefit or at least the illusion of the "American Put" to kind of backstop against disaster, uprisings, military conflict, economic crises. When that global leader is exposed for being nothing but a hollow personaity cult, inept in the extreme save for it's kleptocracy then people, institutions and governments reassess their options. Sometimes right quickly. It'll sort itself out. Might take awhile.

People have a lot of practical concerns about the effects on the economy, availability of goods and services etc. Some are legitimately quite worried about their incomes, ability to travel etc. But "terrified?" No.

It's also possible (can't predict of course) that the virus could mutate in such a way as to reduce the mortality rate.

Well, I have to say that America watched the rest of the world for 2 months and did nothing to prepare themselves, because they couldn’t care less about the rest of the world while they were busy making money. Now it comes to them and they wake up and the first thing they do is panic.

 

it seems their big military powers, oil self sufficiency and oh so fast growing economy, is no good to them when the chips are even half way down.

 

Trump spent 4 years reneging on a ton of international commitments entered into by previous American administrations, the world might just decide to look on and watch America flounder while they themselves deal with the issue in their own countries.

While I agree that the headline may be a bit over-the-top, there's no question that America is entering uncharted waters....at least in modern times.  I was surprised that the NBA suspended their season, and then the NCAA, the PGA tour canceling the Players Championship, ATP cancelling the Indian Wells tennis tournament, etc.  And then there's schools shutting down, all mass gatherings not happening, the stock market cratering, travel restrictions....even Disneyland shutting down.  Now Trump is talking about restricting travel to certain states (not sure how the heck he would do that). 

 

So perhaps "terrified" is not the correct word.  Maybe "very concerned" is better.

Seriously, people still have time to fight over semantics? A virus at large that has the capacity to kill, unrestrainable and is spreading around the globe at an alarming rate... need I say more? Some have died and will and that could be anyone of us (worst case scenario, yet which each of us still have to consider.)

 

On the bright side, testing on site is starting at Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, 8 hour turn around time for result, 500 tests per day. A ray of hope/voice of reason...may it will come round the globe - here - soon?

 

 

Notice how the officials in this clip answered questions, precise numbers on the tip of their tongue, nuts-and bolts definitive, a stark contrast to the hawing-and hemming, beating around the bush, lemme get back to you on this, goverment putting blame on private enterprise, etc., way of those higher up in the chain of command and leadership of the whole nation when facing tough questions.
