Day 5 of the infection (likely still asymptomatic) an average nasal swab will contain 5 x 108 of those little buggers. You are also shedding a high volume and the primary vector of infection is surface based. On average we touch our face around 20 times an hour, touching a railing and touching your face will give you more than sufficient quantity to overcome a persons normal immune system. The primary vector is person to person. Like also in post 84 there have been no documented cases of surface to person transmission. So unless you have some Facts/links to support the above it's just something you said with no factual basis And if the primary vector was surface to person as you claim * then infections in say Bangkok or Pattaya would be in hundreds of thousands. * As stated by all professionals on this subject: person to person is the main , if only infectivity . webfact
32 new Covid-19 cases found in Thailand By The Nation Thailand saw a steep jump in the number of new coronavirus cases, with 32 testing positive for Covid-19 over the weekend, most of them contracting the virus after visiting a pub and a boxing stadium. This is the highest number confirmed by Thailand on a single day. Dr Sukhum Karnchanapimai, permanent secretary at the Public Health Ministry, said on Sunday (March) that one person was a patient who had close contact with a cluster infection group of Hong Kong tourists. Two got infected from a Thai woman who had returned from South Korea. Five got infected after hanging out at entertainment venues. The Public Health Ministry has ordered them to close and start cleaning for at least three days. Nine got infected from the Lumpinee boxing stadium, which has now said it will bar spectators from attending bouts until the end of the month after two fans posted on Facebook that they had contracted the disease. Three people -- an Immigration police and two restaurant employees in Suvarnabhumi Airport -- got infected from a tourist. Seven people, including five Thais, were infected after travelling abroad. The five included an Explosives Ordnance Disposal police who returned from Spain, and two foreigners who got infected before landing. Two shop owners and three others are under scrutiny to know the source of their infection. Fifty-one close contacts of these patients are awaiting Covid-19 test results. As of Sunday, the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases rose to 114 of whom 35 have been discharged after recovery, 78 are under medical care, and one death. Thailand still remained at second phase for local transmission. So unless you have some Facts/links to support the above it's just something you said with no factual basis When they talk about "person to person" they are talking about whether you can catch it from another person not the vector of transmission. Originally, early in the outbreak they thought the virus / pneumonia, which is zoonotic, required the transmission from animal to human. Thus early on they did not think it was as much a threat as one that is "person to person". Then the original safe distance they projected was that if you kept a distance of 2 meters you would be outside the zone of likely transmission, but found it to be incorrect by tracing transmission on a bus (camera equipped) that showed transmission likely at 4 meters because that was the closest the two people came. I don't know how long your arms are but mine are not 2 meters or 4 meters. Mucus membranes can provide a barrier to infection for some viruses, but this virus it provides little to no protection... which is why they are talking about washing hands, don't touch your face, etc. So first they thought it was "animal to person" only, then it was "person to person" through fomite, now they realize the virus may hang in the air for up to 30 minutes as well (depending on conditions). John Hopkins: Coronavirus COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) Quote Transmission - By respiratory droplets and by fomite. Virus found in respiratory secretions and saliva. - Stool shedding also described, but uncertain what role, if any, that plays. Translation: fomite - objects or materials which are likely to carry infection, such as clothes, utensils, and furniture. Stool is likely through aerosolization of fecal matter when flushed. NOTE: Later research has indicated the fomite lives on surfaces for up to 48 hours at 37C. Edited March 15, 2020 by bkkcanuck8

Toka
Coronavirus causing Covid-19 can hang in the air for at least 30 minutes (up to 3 hours at 23C) and travel up to 4.5 meters. How long it lasts on the surface depends on factors such as temperature and type of surface, for example at around 37C, it can survive for two to three days on glass, fabric, metal, plastic or paper. virus first dies at 60-70C

Reading such news and others where they state that this virus wouldn't exist in Isaan ( was topic a few days ago, coming from a foreigner in Nong Khai) makes all these news to something I just don't believe. It's also easy for the government to shut down people who report the truth on social media. Again, a similarity to China. Why would anyone believe a [random] foreigner in Nong Khai? Did you? Did anyone believe it, reported or not? The same is happening all over the world now: numpties are coming out with all sorts of garbage. Yes, we have to include cabinet minsters, presidents and the rest who know nothing but talk a lot.

The virus is not causing severe problems for the vast majority of infected people, from all we know today. There are nowhere near 60,000 deaths, it is close to 6,000 as of today. i hope you meant this, rather than trying to spread unnecessary panic. The number of new cases in China ranges from zero to very small over recent days and you are right, 6515 deaths worldwide so far, half of which were in China and about one third in Italy. There is no downplaying visible here at all so what are you on about? The poster quoted my previous post where i corrected fear mongering where someone posted wrong info stating over 60k deaths and other stuff. What matters now is factual information and helping each other find the sources to that. Be informed by facts and take the right precautions and adopt the behaviour that protects us all. So please refrain from making negative comments on people who promote facts and being informed please. The issue facing us all is very serious, so even more important to keep a cool head and promote facts. Thanks.

Again no documented cases of surfaces to persons transmissions . Sure it is ;possible and there are probably some, But I sure dont remember anyone worried about catching a cold from a railing. In your bus example the transmissions went from front to back most likely with the air flow. And this your conflating with transmissions from surfaces.https://www.sciencealert.com/study-shows-just-how-long-coronaviruses-can-stick-around-on-a-surface https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/coronavirus-can-stay-infectious-for-days-on-surfaces/2020/03/12/9b54a99e-6472-11ea-845d-e35b0234b136_story.html And these links also say surface infections are questionable : compare the exposure from an infected persons cough spray to the chain of indirect exposures. While most contacts with surfaces from an infected person would be hand to surface, then from surface to hand of uninfected then to face. I say possible but a longshot. And again if that was a vector you would expect orders of magnitude more infections in Bangkok and Pattaya Edited March 16, 2020 by morrobay

Popular Post Almer
Lets stop being nasty to each other, this is serious, the economy will shatter with the Thai health system unable to cope. Thai people, just look at the rest of the western world to see what is happening, European countries with there far superior health systems being advised by there governments to be prepared for the biggest health crisis in a decade as they expect up to 80% of the populations to require treatment, the UK PM asking any and all manufactures even JCB a heavy machine manufacturer to start building respirators, i have a little been encouraged by the low level of reported transmissions but where there has been for people who should due to there position know better than to blame " dirty westerners " for the spread. There will be tough months ahead for us all, lets stop the finger pointing and think of those who are least able to help themselves which includes the many workers in tourist resorts many will return to there villages with nothing and try and survive this. People are doing things to protect themselves but need strong leadership and of course a lot of common sense, Good luck everybody whatever nationality, take care. 3
