Panic buying leading to shortages at some outlets

Just remember every single can, package of toilet paper, bottles of water you are buying were most likely stocked by a chain of Thais who were picking their noses and not washing their hands. Hope you are wiping the thousand cans of beans you bought.

Also because of the panic buying things don't sit in the shelf long. So you can be sure the contamination is fresh. The more you buy the more you are bringing the virus in your house.

Yeah, but it's a wee bit late to buy a herd of cows, have to shop for the delish murder somewhere. Just don't stick those cans up your nostrils and cook the food well.

Just don't touch any of it with your hands I suppose.

Thais picking their nose? Joke aside but at least they do something about

panic buying in Australian supermarkets now. They open 1 hour early as normal

but only for pensioners or people with disabilities which normally don't have

a chance to buy anything because by the time they enter the shop everything

is sold out so I guess it is a good idea. And yes you need to produce your

pensioner or invalid card.

Have drinkable water from the tap .( but this is Ireland ) .Have stocked up with multiple 5 lt containers of Spring water as well. When the spring water runs out will have to refill with tap water .Don't like using it as it contains fluoride.

Ignore them. You are right to be prepared. There are many still in denial, and others who are oblivious to  the reality and others who cannot  cope. It''s going to get  worse before it gets better. Thailand failed to flatten the curve and will soon have the wave.

I noticed the super market on sukhumvit just after soi 33 was running very low on lots of "stock up" type items last night. The row of freezers that contained frozen quick meals (yes, I know I am a heathen!) were pretty much all down to just a few lonely less popular choices.

And yes, everything that comes from the supermarket and is assumed to be handled by the world champion of nose pickers gets put into sink and washed with detergent then into fridge.

Did my buying started three weeks ago. 180 liters of water.

Food for six weeks. In case we are told the remain home. Medicine. Kleenex. You name it. No need to go out unnecessarily now.

The USA is crashing now with NYC becoming like Wuhin soon. Reports school's will not open again this year. Hellish conditions at the airport with people in huge groups together for hours returning from everywhere in the world. No masks. Exactly what you don't want to do.

Myths so far are virus only affects the old and is like the common flu.

In fact people of any age are infected without symptoms and are transmitting the virus to others. Life long lung and liver damage is possible.

Social distancing is now the only way to stop the virus. Stay home. Stay away from tourists who should not be traveling now.

Stay away from white people and booger picking Thai people

I too am very serious. There is little doubt that we now face a great pandemic. I won't go through the data but here is a long analysis from Stanford University, you won't find anything more accurate. It's pandemic, no longer stoppable, and fatality rates are significantly high.  https://medium.com/@tomaspueyo/coronavirus-act-today-or-people-will-die-f4d3d9cd99ca

Sorry, no. That's NOT an analysis from Stanford. It's an analysis from an individual who has an engineering degree and an MBA from Stanford. More fear mongering.

I'd rather pay attention to what MDs, epidemiologists and those who specialize in pandemics think. Here is a link to an article published in several newspapers written by an infectious disease specialist at the Univ. of Toronto (Canada), Dr. Abdu Sharkawy. https://www.pressofatlanticcity.com/opinion/commentary/mass-panic-could-be-worse-than-the-coronavirus-itself-says/article_a661c09d-84bd-5521-b782-6b1835b64aec.html

So much of the data out there now is corrupt, majority of people are sheep, no other word for it, indoctrinated and bred to believe whatever there "masters" tell them! They will be the ones stocking up on toilet rolls now as they will be $hitting themselves ????

Personally I like the analysis of big data better when the data itself is not yet static. It's a leading indicator. Of course if it's garbage in, it's garbage out, but the datasets seem to be getting better now.

Breaking news on CNBC :

A shelter in place order for all of New York City.

A "shelter in place" order would mandate that all city residents stay in their homes but would fall short of the complete lockdown that is in place in Italy, where people need permission to leave their homes.

CNBC says their people say it is 100%.

others saying it is going to be extended to the entire country.

Sorry you will be disappointed as on Saturday Macro was business as usual apart from a temperature check on everyone entering.

Just an update on this morning at Udon Macro, parking tickets suspended, temperature check at 35.7oC

2 ½ hours after opening 8:30, only about 40% ~ 50% of the Checkouts were open as is normal only 1 or 2 people waiting for each (less than normal), time from queue to checking out about 3 minutes (very fast), not more than a usual number of shoppers.

TIT YMMV.

No panic buying in Hua Hin. Been to Makro and Tesco today, and all shelves are fully stocked, Very few, mostly Thais, stocked up on extra water and MaMa noodles. Number of shoppers like on a normal business day.

Personally, I stocked up on foreign beer, and Capten Morgan Gold Spiced.

Foreign foodstuffs that are flown in will be in short supply. Not sure if there are many. In any case I replenished our spice shelf, was time to do it anyway. Good time to learn how to cook yourself using local ingredients, if you haven't done so already. It's fun, too.

I took the car to big C Udon Thani yesterday to do some serious panic buying but was disappointed. Full shelves of pretty much everything. No pushing or shoving, in fact for a Sunday the place was virtually dead.

I’ll try Makro today in my hunt for supermarket drama, I need to feel I’m getting one step ahead of my fellow farangs.

Out here in the sticks of udon most thais would be skint after buying 12 bog rolls so there's no panic buying here.

Actually some research was surprising. Thailand will fare pretty well thanks to being a country with lots of agriculture, some others will have trouble due to global logistics disruptions:

Think buffaloes pulling carts to markets. If it comes from within that distance, no worries.
