The chief of the Defence Forces, General Pornpipat Benyasri, has issued an order banning overseas travel of military personnel in order to avoid risky destinations during the Covid-19 pandemic, Colonel Chatrapi Poonsri, deputy spokesperson of the Royal Thai Armed Forces, said on Sunday (March 15).

They are also not allowed to attend parties or large gatherings of people. If they have to participate in social events, they must strictly follow the guidelines set by the Public Health Ministry and they have to report to their supervisors.

The measures are imposed to ensure the virus will not be transmitted among the Armed Forces or their families, she said.

Maybe they fear one of them claiming asylum and giving the real figures ?

My thoughts exactly.

No one is now allowed to flee the country - unless an under table covid-free payment is made of course - using approved money-laundered cash.

What a shame....there'll be some very disappointed generals and their families after this decision

Aside from the purposes of joint military training exercises, why do generals or does anyone in the Thai military need to travel abroad? There's no good reason. So I don't see how this rule will change much for most people. The vast majority of Thai military recruits have never left the country anyway.

RTA General Nathaphon Srisawat confirmed to have COVID-19, 60 others quarantined including 36 in command positions.

Today's daily virus briefing postponed from 11:00 to 15:00, presumably not because of good news.

I read this very same story on the BBC World News website this morning. It was linked to its source, a story in the online Bangkok Post. Guess what: both the BP and BBC stories are no longer on their respective online news services. What gives?
