The governor of Surat Thani in the south of Thailand has ordered the immediate closure of all entertainment venues until the end of March.

Both holiday islands of Koh Samui and Koh Phangan are in this province, notes Thaivisa.

The move follows news that a building contractor has been diagnosed with Covid-19.

The 49 year old man runs a business with Malaysian partners and Malaysian employees.

He is a diabetic with kidney problems and has come down with respiratory problems, said health officials though his condition is improving.

Thirty seven people he came into close contact with are in quarantine.

A further 54 people are being closely monitored. The patient developed the lung infection from March 11-15th after first falling sick with a fever on March 8th, a meeting was told.

Surat governor Wichawut Jinto reacted by closing all entertainment venues and stopping cock fighting and buffalo fighting events.

77kaoded did not specify Samui of Phangan in their report though both are in the province.

The danger I see at the moment is that even a small stomach ache is diagnosed as Covid-19 ...
