Five Covid-19 cases confirmed in Songkhla

 

 

There are five confirmed Covid-19 cases in Songkhla while test results are awaited in 13 other cases, provincial GovernorJaruwat Kliangklao said on Sunday.

 

None of the patients are in serious condition, he added.

 

Police have tightened screening on the Thai-Malaysia border checkpoint and are patrolling other areas to prevent smuggling of illegal migrants.

These I think are all from Chana, and were delegates at the tabligh ijtimak assembly, at the Sri Petaling Mosque in Kuala Lumpur earlier in the month. The assembly seems to have been a total virus fest.

By the sound of it, the faithful have returned to spread more than simply the wise words of the Prophet. The event was attended by 15,000 people, from Malaysia and "other countries".

 

Malaysia’s Health Ministry Sunday announced that 190 people had tested positive for coronavirus, the highest number of infections reported in a day in the country.

 

“'Based on early investigation, most of the new cases are linked to the Tabligh gathering at Sri Petaling Mosque,'” Health Minister Dr. Adham Baba said in a statement on Sunday.

The Tabligh infections represent no less than 63 percent of Malaysia's total, and they have only managed to track around half of those who attended the two-day festival.

 

Be interesting to see if there if there is a consequential outbreak of the virus among the Muslim population of southern Thailand - and what the Thai government will do to contain it. Potentially a political hot potato.

 

How about banning all mass gatherings at temples, churches and mosques?

Malaysia should never have let the assembly go ahead, but it was the time the government was in change and Mahathir had stepped down, they took their eye of the ball. Consequently Malaysia has jumped from a couple of hundred cases to over a thousand, most of the new cases are associated with this assembly at the Sri Petaling Mosque.

 

There were 132 Thai delegates all of whom were told to quarantine for 14 days and are being monitored. So far there are 15 cases confirmed from amongst the 132 delegates; 8 in Narathiwat, 2 in Yala, and 5 in Songkhla.

Religious assembly has been one of the root causes for the rapid and wide proliferation

of the virus. Makes you wonder.

Indeed, in Italy most elderly Catholics attend mass several times a week, pick up the virus and take it home to the extended family. South Korea it was some Christian cult. In Iran & Malaysia it's the mosques that do the distribution. Indonesian mosques are no doubt busy doing the same but no one's counting.
