Thailand reports 122 new coronavirus cases, raising total to 721

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand has 122 new coronavirus cases, raising the total to 721, a health ministry spokesman said on Monday at a news conference.

 

The new cases include 20 patients linked to previous cases, 10 new imported cases, and 92 cases that tested positive and are awaiting investigation into how they contracted the disease, Taweesin Wisanuyothin, a Public Health Ministry spokesman said.

 

Thailand has recorded one death since the outbreak while 52 patients have recovered and gone home while 668 are still being treated in hospitals.

If we do not have that many Covid-19 cases why are all public hospitals already over crammed and people with symptoms being asked to come back later (we have evidence on this on video and witnesses so do not dare to accuse us of disseminating fake news or will sue legally!) Why are there so many PUIs (patient under investigation) being hospitalized for a long time when a test needs 20 to 25 minutes to confirm the results and another 24 hours to confirm it.

Clearly it is Phase 3

The Thailand stats and those coming out of most of Southeast Asia except Singapore strike me as highly unreliable. You almost should ignore them. However I find the stat of 1 death interesting. Let us assume this number is also wrong however I don't think it is a high number because that is the type of thing people would post about on social media and in the news. It is not true heat and humidity can stop the virus since it is clearly in Thailand but it may be true that it is less virulent in climates like this. Again I do not trust the total case or number of recovered. I also do not trust the deaths but I am confident it is low and that is one positive aspect.

122 new cases take Thailand's Covid-19 total to 721

Covid-19 patients in Thailand increased by 122 on Monday (March 23), taking the total to more than 700.

 

Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesman for the Public Health Ministry, said on Monday that the new cases could be divided into three groups.

 

The first group of 20 are connected to cluster cases -- four people had attended a boxing event in a stadium, 16 had had close contact with others previously confirmed as infected.

 

The second group comprises 10 people of whom four had just travelled back from overseas (two Thais returned from Paoy Paet district in Cambodia and Germany, and two foreigners were Swiss and French), while six had been working in crowded areas (staff in pubs) and close to foreigners (drivers).

 

The origin of the virus in the third group of 92 is still being investigated.

 

Meanwhile, seven patients recovered fully and returned home.

 

As of March 23, the total number of confirmed cases in the country stands at 721 -- 668 are under treatment, 52 have recovered and been discharged, and there has been one death.

There are few like-for-like comparisons between countries that can usefully be made at the moment, methods of counting are not standardised; different countries have different degrees of testing for the virus, and have different ways of counting the number of cases. There's a very good article in today's Guardian which looks at the reasons for the disparity between the numbers for Italy and for Germany.

Wait ......the numbers are dropping now, we must be on the downside, its going to be flattening out soon, no need to go to Stage 3, its all going to be just fine, no need to worry, the guvment has it all under control.  Well I am relieved that the only people infected were from the boxing stadiums and those sharing the cigarette and drinking together, seems we just worried for nothing.  Lets lift the closures, restart the economy, THAILAND is the savior of the world.....and if you believe any of this I have beach front property for sale in Nevada, just waiting for California to fall into the ocean.....keep vigilant folks, numbers lie, and so do liars....

and a couple weeks or so ago, here a TV forum there was a post by Webfact (sorry but can't find it, maybe some of you will) whereby the government was giving strict instructions to the hospitals (private and government included)  to take care of foreigners the same way as they took care of Thais.....and for a moment I did believe it, silly me 555

If you don't get tested and die of lung infection or pneumonia then that's what goes on the death cert.

No tests after death either

Seen charts of viral pneumonia in Thailand at 3000+ dated 20th March.

Every time I post them they get deleted for some reason!

Wait till the ten thousands of Thais they lost their jobs and traveled home to their families spread the virus there. They should self-isolate but how can this be possible when they live with their family members in one room? 
Not so many cases in Thailand right now because the tests are crazy expensive. A few tests - a few cases.

don't close borders, make it impossible to get needed papers to stay, make it difficult to get the 30 days extension as we can read almost live of IO not allowing it, giving 7 days for 1900 baht, the new MILKING COW to get some money from those dirty farangs.

I particularly like the authors preceding comments, to quote:-

On the other have we have been receiving so many complains sent to us about incidences at private hospitals. Many Thais even with premium health insurance policies are being turned away from the private hospitals for Covid-19 treatments. These hospitals will charge you initial amounts for basic checking and also for initial meds and services and then if you insists of having a Covid-19 test done, they will charge you even more, then ask you to transfer to a government hospital that has no place. No private hospitals to date are willing to treat any Covid-19 patients in-house.
 
To make matters worse, many of these private hospitals are practicing double tier pricings for checkups and test, one for Thais and another for foreigners.
 
The mask issues have also yet to be resolved with still more blames at Caucasian foreigners being labeled as dirty and not wearing mask when so far all cases of Thais being infected by foreigners have been due to Chinese, Hong Kong and Singaporean Chinese tourists not any Caucasian foreigners but yet these Thai officials who have an affinity for ‘rimming’ the Chinese have yet to criticize the Chinese! Meanwhile the Foreign Embassies, Ambassadors and Consuls have not spoken out about these double standards to protect their citizens as they seem to be also busy ‘rimming’ the xenophobic officials.

 

Wonder if the Thai journalist responsible for the article has become another statistic of this Pandemic or wether he’s just disappeared?
