Too optimistic.  The US is not going to impose national restrictions as China and some other successful countries have done.  The result will be that the virus with ricochet around the country, dying

(Reuters) - The coronavirus pandemic could kill more than 81,000 people in the United States in the next four months and may not subside until June, according to a data analysis done by University of Washington School of Medicine.

But Dr. Trump says you can go to packed church services in time for Easter!!!!!   :clap2:

If he can't be impeached out of office by the Republicans in the U.S. Senate, can they at least yank his medical license!!!!

You are a paid semi-professional. All that language training for this? What a shame.

I expect the total number of cases to dwarf China. But to predict 81,000 deaths is inane and irresponsible. And alarmist. Panic mongering. If the US ends up with 500,000 cases, which I would consider realistic, that would mean 10,000 fatalities at the average rate of 2%. The rest is just ridiculous hyperbole and is meant to scare the daylights out of the masses.

Granted the US got a very late start and the leadership has been awful. But, enough is enough with the zombie apocalypse stuff.

Taken in full context it was stated that he would like to see such an occurance, but that was never stated as an exact, but rather as contingent upon events and the view of medical professionals, as wait and see. Easy to review the tapes.

In brief, he was unable to keep it shut and talked B.S. again. We can agree on that.

I hope a vaccine comes soon. I still am not second guessing leadership anywhere from USA to Thailand. People are doing their best in an ever evolving situation with many professionals involved. Of which, I am not one. In Bangkok it appears they are doing their best.

"Sixty percent of Americans indicated in the poll they approve of the way the president is steering the country in response to the pandemic, with 38% saying they disapprove".

That's certainly an alarming statistic, and one that shows Trump has been doing a characteristically good snake oil salesman job on his daily TV appearances spouting all kinds of gibberish and half-truths...  Too many Americans rely on network/cable TV news for their sole understanding of what's going on in the nation and the world, and the country is worse off for it.

They see Trump on TV every night telling the world everything is great, the feds are great, cures are coming soon, etc etc...  And too many of them actually believe what's he's saying. He's getting more free national TV air time out of this than if he were just running for election. And he's milking it for all its worth.

When Trumpers have no argument, then they talk about hate, deep state, fake news MSM, etc... However, 'hate' has become quite popular recently.

No biggie

Don't forget that the number is low due to the extreme effort to stop the transmission of the virus.  I'm sure you can find projections that show the numbers if there were no effort made.

I know, I know, I suppose you think thats an original thought that hasn't been said before, and hasn't been heard. Alas, it's quite well worn by now. None the less, they do think of themselves as one, and as per the usual have a single totalitarian party. Jesus, to my knowledge predates marxism by a year or two, and never was one for an all powerful Government to decide the fate of men and deny the free will given to them by God, but nice try.

I guess you could describe God as an all powerful government.

His basic message seems to be my way, or eternal damnation.

You know, really I have concerns for cities that this seems to be getting out of control in, specific hopes it begins to noticably drop, and a vaccine is found.

It's funny, the doublethink on display here. Before Trump changed his tune on the coronavirus, his ratings on it were deeply negative. So I guess by your standards he wasn't doing fine before? But you and others have defended his conduct throughout the entire coronavirus episode. See an inconsistency there?

After Considering $1 Billion Price Tag for Ventilators, White House Has Second Thoughts

WASHINGTON — The White House had been preparing to reveal on Wednesday a joint venture between General Motors and Ventec Life Systems that would allow for the production of as many as 80,000 desperately needed ventilators to respond to an escalating pandemic when word suddenly came down that the announcement was off.

The decision to cancel the announcement, government officials say, came after the Federal Emergency Management Agency said it needed more time to assess whether the estimated cost was prohibitive. That price tag was more than $1 billion, with several hundred million dollars to be paid upfront to General Motors to retool a car parts plant in Kokomo, Ind., where the ventilators would be made with Ventec’s technology.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/26/us/politics/coronavirus-ventilators-trump.html

Billions for Boeing.... Ventilators, not so much...

With 350 million of us that makes it 0.04 percent if 162,000 die. I thought the death rate was expected to be much higher.

Yes, we saw that respect from Republicans on display during the Obama administration. In fact the current President respected him so much that he doubted Obama's citizenship.

China, S. Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore stopped the spread of the virus by widespread testing, compulsory isolation of positives, and contact tracing on a large scale.  The US has taken none of these steps and is not going to take them.  Therefore, the US infection and death rates will greatly exceed those of the smart countries.

The U.S. this past week had to beg testing kits from South Korea...  it's a SAD state of affairs with the total lack of preparedness....even though anyone with a brain could see it coming from China long before it actually hit the U.S.  But back then, the president was an avid CV denier. So the U.S. fiddled while the fire was approaching.

Same with Angela Merkel, nobody did anything to prepare.

Difference was that Germany spent for years heavily on the public health system, whereas in the US historically this was not done under any administration. It's not just Trump's fault, all administrations are to blame for the sorry state of hospitals in the US.

Only the private medicine is where the US spent big.

The other day, the WHO spokeswoman was going on about whether the U.S. was going to be the next epicenter for the CV outbreaks in the world [The U.S. became the country with the most total cases today passing China].

And after initially saying it could be, she later came back and equivocated, saying, well, the U.S. has the best medical researchers, the best technology, etc etc...

The one thing she didn't say was... the U.S. has the best national leadership to bring all those other things to bear on the crisis.
