Covid-19 is the respiratory disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 (Virus) - but the WHO seem to be dumbing down their information, as if they think people are incapable of recognising the difference. 

 

Sometimes highly intelligent people suffer when trying to communicate to those of lesser intelligence (i.e. WHO scientists to the masses). In the same manner they have fallen foul of providing flawed advice with ‘mask wear’.....

1. With "they" you mean the World Heath Organisation (WHO) mentioned in the title and the body of the news article to which you linked.
2. With "in" you mean "it", and judging from the context with "it" you mean SARS-CoV-2
3. With "Covid19" you mean "Covid-19"
4. Your question is a reference to this part of the news article":

My guess:

The WHO is dumbing down its language to what they assume to be the lower intellectual level of their readers and listeners than the level of Ryan et al, as is explained in the last paragraph of the article:

Incidentally, contrary to what you seem to imply, the news article does not say that the WHO uses Covid-19 to refer to SARS-CoV-2. This is what the article says:

Yes I agree. I will only wear a mask where it is mandated. For me that only means Big C. There are only 3 items that I need to visit that store for and I'm well stocked on all 3 right now.

 

Most of the useless rags that I've seen on peoples faces a joke anyway.

And do you ever ask why? The reason is two-fold. While a mask will help to reduce the spray of virus laden croplets if you sneeze or cough, it does not help to significantly reduce the transmission because most masks are not designed to do that and people can contaminate the mask when putting it on or off.

 

In addition, as is clear from reputable news sources from developed countries, if everyone gets a mask, there will be none for the folks who should get them, namely medical staff. And remember, this is not the medical staff being selfish - they wear a mask to ensure you don't get their infection. So next time you try to impugn what the WHO are saying, remember that they are in possession of far more data and understanding than you are.

The mortality rate is deaths/total infected.

 

Given that most people recover from the disease, but recovery takes up to 2 or 3 weeks, then - as new infections start to flatten out because of prevention measures - recoveries will keep on increasing and eventually far outrun infections. Thus the 'fatality rate' as measured today is mostly just a statistical artifact of time: early on you have many infections & few recoveries. Mostly now the fatality rate will improve steadily, whatever further we do

Who the hell is still listening to the WHO after numerous of misinformation since the beginning of this outbreak.

 

A certain country has a certain incentive to spread misinformation and let this spread in the west. Guess who's controlling the WHO. And before anyone says "oh pretty please, you stop it with your conspiracy theories, you're just an online nobody" I invite you to have an unbiased research yourself first. The last pandemic was only a 100 years ago. The last world war less than 80. What makes you think this isn't going to happen again?

Until today they are still advising no mask if not sick, with a sickness where you really don't know that you're sick, for weeks. Hiding behind the weak argument it gives a false sense of security. The truth is, when 2 people wear a mask, the chance of spreading from this one person to the other is immensely reduced. Even if these two masks are homemade cloth ones. Then R0 will be even less than seasonal flu.

Problem is with WHO is that it has become a mouthpiece for the Chicoms and it’s difficult to believe what they say anymore. Current head of the organization, Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus, is a toady for Xi Jing Ping and won’t even allow Taiwan so much as observer status. It’s criminal and a once principaled organization has descended into a political monster. Really sad to see and this creep is in a big part responsible.

Wearing a mask on a motorbike is in vogue, unfortunately wearing a motorcycle safety helmet isn’t so fashionable.

 

Anyone noticed the mask of choice is either plain black or multicoloured.

I would sooner take advice from that moron Anutin than the WHO. They have been wrong, behind the curve and political during this whole mess. Just watch the HKTV interview with a Canadian WHO official and see how he reacted when asked a legitimate question about Taiwan. The whole organization is now corrupted by politics and utterly untrustworthy at this point in time.

There are some good basic statements made, but I will never believe WHO. They're nothing but 'international' bureaucrats. Look back and see how they parroted China in Dec/Jan and continue to applaud China and their handling of the virus.

Because SARS-CoV-2 is directly attributed to China from bats and pangolins, while covid-19 is more vague.  It is the WHO afterall.

No. Because SARS-CoV-2 is the name of the virus that causes the disease, and Covid- 19 is the name of the disease ( Corona Virus Disease -2019)

 

In exactly the same way HIV was the name of the virus, and AIDS was the name of the disease it caused.

 

I see one myth not mentioned is the myth that WHO gives sensible travelling advice.

Good example of how much influence China has on the WHO.

He just pretended he did not hear, then refused to answer anything to do with Taiwan, CCP boot licking low life.

Ido not trust, or respect, any of the UNs beauracratic instituitions, which seem to be sinecures for folks who couldnt fuction as the Mayor of a small town in Iowa, and a means for the anti-west to push agendas.

 

In light of the clear deference of the WHO to China, I find them to lack credibility.

I would assume to avoid confusion of the sars epidemic with this pandemic. The scientific name and the common name are often different for that reason

I've been convinced for quite some time that the climate here in Thailand is working in our favour and I'm still convinced, despite WHO's apparent skepticism.

 

I've also been studying this web site and, to me, it's just about irrefutable.

 

We will prevail!
