Just a general inquiry. I am going to retire to my lovely home in Ban Chang and need some advice. Agency's have wanted about 60000 baht to arrange everything for my wife and myself which I think is very extreme. I have the 80000 baht in the bank etc so think it is best to do it myself. The questions I have are; would it be best to start the process in the country I am living at the moment, Myanmar. Where can I get a rough copy of the house contract I need for this. Is it a major hassle of including my wife and what do I need to satisfy her application. And any other help I should know.

Because of the present situation I hope to move back in July.

Thanks

800'000 Baht at a Thai bank account I assume?

Over 50 years old?

You are in Myanmar currently?

I have no idea what you could usefully do before the borders are reopened. The best start would then be getting a Non O visa at the Thai consulate in Myanmar.

Your wife is with you, no Thai national?

In Myanmar with my Myanmar wife, how do you get a retirement visa and a spouse visa

You sent me a message about it yesterday.

Copy of my reply.

It would be best if you could get the non-o before entering the country. But not sure the embassy in Yangon will issue one for retirement. It does not appear on their website but you could contact them about it.

Contact info is here. http://www.thaiembassy.org/yangon/en/organize/18982-Address.html

If not then you could enter visa exempt or with a tourist visa and apply for the visa at immigration. They normally ask for proof the 800k baht came from abroad but most will waive it if you have had the funds in the bank for long period to time.

Requirements are here. https://division1.immigration.go.th/download/1551323081128.pdf

You did not mention your wife needing a visa or extension. Your wife will have get her non-o visa from an embassy or consulate. Immigration does not issue them for family members of a person on a retirement extension.

The OP needs, however, to be aware than Ban Chang lies within the catchment area of the Rayong Immigration Office whom I've previously heard reported as being a rogue office when it comes to non-O conversions (i.e. they won't process them).

I think that was one for being married to a Thai. I think they will do them for retirement now.

So does this mean both husband and wife will need 800K each in the bank? (Total 1.6M baht!)

I thought the foreign wife was allowed to piggyback the husband's retirement visa?

If they want separate and independent retirement extensions yes.  Probably best to have their own accounts. But what you say is correct, a spouse can get a non-imm-o visa (outside Thailand) then an extension, based on husband/wife's retirement extension.

No it certainly does not.

I wrote that she would have to apply for a single entry non-o to apply for the extension for being member of his family. The non-o visa for that reason is only issued at a embassy and consulate. Immigration will not change a tourist or visa exempt entry to a non immigrant visa for that type of extension.
