Virus kills party mood in Khon Kaen

An unseasonal hush fell over Khon Kaen province on Monday (April 13), as the usually raucous Songkran celebrations fell victim to Covid-19 containment measures.

This year there’s no marquees or stages on Sri Chant and Khao Neo roads, traditionally the epicentre of Thai New Year celebrations. Most stores are closed, and those still open are receiving few customers.

The City Pillar Shrine was visited by only a few people on Monday while roads were quiet as most people opted to stay indoors.

Good !!

That way there will be many more Songkrans to come for many.

I hate for any of you to die until I had a chance to come back to Thailand and bore you all to death myself

Stay safe my friends.

The best songkran in all my years in Thailand.

Long may it continue. Without the virus of course.

Photographs of the village headman together with his guests pouring water on the hands of elderly people and seeking their blessings.

I agree. That's how I have come to know Songkran since adopting village life. It's just a shame he had to go stick it up on social media and catch the wrath of the governor.

Yes the best Songkhran ever, even the usual holiday road slaughter should be less. I suspect most Thai authorities won’t even be aware of this, probably care even less. TIT
