Deputy Interior Minister Niphon Bunyamanee held a meeting with agencies in charge of dealing with the Covid-19 outbreak to come up with measures to bring back Thai nationals who have been stranded after Malaysia shut down its borders.

The meeting on Monday (April 13) also discussed the downward trend of Covid-19 infections in Thailand, further prevention measures and moves to help the estimated 7,000 or 8,000 Thais stranded in Malaysia.

The number of stranded Thais is unclear because some have reportedly illegally crossed the natural borders in Tak Bai, Waeng and Sungai Kolok districts. There are up to 77 natural borders between the two countries, and there are not enough officials to keep a watch on them 24-hours. It is feared that these illegal crossings may increase the number of infections.

Thai workers wishing to return home have been posting recorded messages calling for help. In one message, a worker is heard saying: “We are Thais who have come to Malaysia legally. We want the Thai authorities to find a way to let us return to our country. We are not even able to leave the house to go to the embassy for fear of being arrested. We ask for your sympathy. Since you’re not here with us, you don’t know how difficult it is to live in Malaysia right now.”

Maybe because we are better off in Thailand than back in ourown countries.  If I was back in the UK, I would likely be a statistic already

No, to me it looks like they are busy criticizing all the things Thailand does to fight the virus instead. That, despite the facts that Thailand is dealing better with it then their home countries. Also looks like they chose to stay here instead of returning to the "safety" of their home countries.

The reality is that all the complaining expats are 5h1t scared they have to return home.

Ok, I will adjust. 5h1t scared of the need to return to their home countries. I hope you get in quick, it´s much safer here than in many other places. I understand why you want in as soon as possible.

Purely to be home with my wife... If it wasn't for that, I'd be happy to stay here in Singapore ????

Malaysia closed theirs and then Thailand closed theirs later...

And Thailand also denied entry to its nationals that were trying to enter from Malaysia whilst the Thai side remained open (Which is against the constitution). Thailand tried to stop its citizens through requiring fit-to-fly certificates which made boarding planes hard, but once at a border ALL Thais are constitutionally allowed in.

Little ghosts stranded without work and no-way of getting back.

Because not everyone is in a position to just leave their job whenever they want...

Understand. It was not any bad thinking behind my question. Just interested to know. How is the situation in Singapore?
