Popular Post ratcatcher
Here's a new word for Rooster's Scrabble games. "banboozled" When the government tells you that a ban on Songkran alcohol sales is in effect and then doesn't lift the ban until H.M. the Queen's birthday. 1

Thailand is in a deep hole at the moment with CV19. You can probably tell this from the severity of the lock down against so few cases reported, the size of the mismatch. The issuing of doctored figures is designed to prevent civil unrest. This is probably the best way for everyone's safety including yours. So just sip on your iced tea and enjoy the rest. This does not make good reading but as the guy has made more u-turns than the average Thai pickup driver then I wouldn't read too much into it. Reading the article this fool says that the sale of alcohol is too risky and we'll have to wait until a vaccine is produced. Well what can you say. A vaccine if there ever is one is at least 18 months off. This guys mouth just runs by itself because there's nothing between his ears to control it. I also thought it was the govenors of the provinces that imposed their own ban and not the govt. 6 1

Any extension of the ban will simply not work because people will not put up with it, and by people I mean both the customers, and the retailers. To give an example, our village is just one of 25 in a small jurisdiction outside of Chiang Rai, There are hundreds if not thousands of other villages like ours in the province as a whole. The wholesaler in our village has a warehouse where he can store 100's upon 100's of cases of beer all on pallets. Where I've been getting my beer from has run out. There are no deliveries as mentioned in the article.

But despite of this they did it. Some western governments could learn something. There they are often too scared of powerful lobbies and are just slaves of them. 3 3

And the billions of baht that the government rakes in every year from the tax on alcohol sales? Whatever the decision the government decide on has to focus on the bigger picture.
Popular Post OneeyedJohn
I am beginning to have nightmarish dreams of a world without beer, waking up to see the fridge completely bereft of beer, 30 + cases of empty beer bottles in my kitchen, and my wife despairing at the lack of Hong Tong. Do I feel sorry for her or does she feel sorry for me, these are desperate times. 2

In western countries there are so many small craft breweries - i.e., small business owners - that a ban would put even more people out of work. A lot of these smaller breweries are not doing well at the moment due to no restaurants open. Restaurants is where the bulk of their sales goes. In California they actually opened up restrictions on alcohol realizing that it is a coping mechanism for many especially in lockdown mode. BTW: Nightlife and alcohol ban are 2 different things. The alcohol ban can be lifted without opening up the Nightlife areas (for farangs). Edited April 27, 2020 by HaoleBoy 13

Well done for probably coping with the ban better than some, but at the end of the day it is all about freedom of choice, governments should always be kept a close eye on and not try to restrict what people can buy or cannot buy, whatever the case may be. I drink at the most 2 beers a day, but it is nice to have that choice to do so, I know that some people abuse freedom of choice but those that don't should not suffer because of those irresponsable people. I can just imagine the outcry on here from the temperance seven if the government banned Horlicks or Ovaltine, there would be no living with them.???? 6
