I am at my wits' end with fatigue. I have been like this for several months now, seen doctors, had tests etc. I sleep 12 to 14 hours a day...and when I am awake I can barely do anything.

I have diabetes but have never had such a profound tiredness as this. I can barely make the trip upstairs to lie down.

I take several medications which I have stopped taking one at a time to rule out any of those being the cause. I have been tested for anaemia, thyroid and a host of other likely causes.

I've lived in Thailand for 10 years and so am supposing I am used to the heat.

Anyone have any suggestions? Thank you.

Buy a sofa bed for the living room.

As to everything else, no idea, but hope you're better soon.

Dengue fever ....... leaves the victim tired for a long time after.

If it is not depression, then Chronic Fatigue Syndrome may need to be considered. Unfortunately only a few doctors in Thailand familiar with it.

It is a diagnosis of exclusion. Besides the tests you have already had, should be checked for mononucelosis and a few other viral illnesses, Lyme Disease and adrenal insufficiency.

Does exertion of any type make it worse?

And where in Thailand are you?

Have you experienced any muscle weakness or pain ?

Have you experienced any major life loss perhaps leading to depression ?

Not really muscle weakness. Prior to lockdown I went to the gym and built plenty of muscle, but I had not a lot of energy for longer sessions. I would typically just do 6 exercises.

I do not feel depressed or unhappy. Indeed I am very happy with my situation and am in a loving relationship where I feel loved. I do worry that my lack of energy might bore my wife but she tells me no, she is very happy.

I have a sofa in the living room....I just spent two hours on it napping..

I hadn't thought of Dengue....I'll see if I have antibodies.

Thank you.

try fasting

over eating causes tiredness

ask doctor 1st though

Thanks you. This is interesting. I rarely eat in the mornings when I haven most of my energy. I eat around 2pm a sort of brunch...and an hour or two later I can barely stay awake.

I have actually lost weight over the past year....I was 96 kg and am down to 90kg. I could argue that I over eat....but I was much less tired when I was heavier.

I eat between the hours of 2pm and 8pm and fast for 16 hours a day....I have no appetite in the mornings and I go to bed early at around 8:30pm.

Try increasing your water consumption but please do it gradually.

I drink quite a lot of coffee and green tea and maybe 1 liter of water a day. I have been thinking to change to less coffee and more water. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thank you Sheryl

I think it is CFS but a diagnosis of exclusion is difficult as I have sleep apnea and diabetes and it is difficult to get doctors out of these tracks.

I'll get checked for mono, I had not thought about that.

I was in the NJ, the centre of the Lyme disease world last year and may have picked it up there. Again I will check, but I had no joint symptoms. Addison's again, worth a check.

Since the gym closed I haven't exerted myself much....but I felt better in myself when I went to the gym.

I live in a small town Nakhon Ratchasima....

Low iron?

I got my Hb checked and it was bang in the middle of the range. I was thinking though also about whether other minerals such as Sodium, Potassium were ok. I once had low potassium caused by hydrochlorothiazide, an antihypertensive, but I don't remember whether I felt particularly tired at the time. I take a drug for diabetes that makes me pee out glucose and maybe the kidney is filtering other stuff as well.

You aren't likely to find a doctor familiar with CFS in Korat.

If you can come to Bangkok could try this doctor https://www.bumrungrad.com/en/doctors/Hiroshi-Chantaphakul

What meds are you on  and for how long?

Thanks Sheryl,

Sorry for the late response. We are having some work done on the house and it is like Shibuya Eki here.

I am able to come to Bangkok when the lockdown ends presumably. I am familiar with Bumrungrad. I'll look the doctor up when things get back to normal. Thank you for the recommendation.

I am on a host of meds for Diabetes, (dapagloflozin, sitagliptin and metformin); Neuropathic pain (associated with the diabetes) duloxetine, pregabalin, and tramadol;

Hypercholesterolemia, ezetimibe and bezafibrate; and Hypertension, amlodipine and ramipril. I have been on dapaglifolzin for about a year, but the rest of the meds for about 9 years(since diagnosis).

I discontinued the dapaglozin in case that was causing the fatigue, but I felt no difference in fatigue level when I stopped taking it.

I also used to take supplements, magnesium (for cramps) zinc for coronavirus, some B vitamins (recommended for neuropathy in feet), L-carnitine and CoQ10 (for working out ???? but the gym is closed. I have stopped all supplements. with no change.

My mother says she has fibromyalgia which induces fatigue but also pains which I don't get...

An enigma!

Thanks again Peter
