Thai PM says no billionaires offered financial help to Government

Prayuth-File-Photo2.png

None of the Thailand’s 20 billionaires, who responded to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha’s call for help in wake of COVID-19 pandemic, have offered the Government any financial help.

The Prime Minister told the media today that he had received responses from several super-wealthy individuals, all of whom promised to take care of their employees by keeping as many on their payroll as possible, or by providing those who are laid off with alternative occupations.

He said some of these tycoons had expressed concern that, after the pandemic is over, some employees, who were provided with alternative jobs, might not return to work for them.

Yep-you don't get to be a robber baron by being nice and once you're there it is a very cozy club..

I'm also sensing that the PM's hold over his medieval retinue is becoming somewhat tenuous.

Not my fault he raided the national coffers and his government is rife with corruption from top to bottom.

There are a few billionaire Thai MP's.

How come they didn't donate?

Is this PM working with no salary to help out?

How about that guy with all the watches?

Seems it is everyone else's job to help out except the politicians.

Speaking of millionaires, I  wonder how much Prayut donated from his personal wealth !!

They would like that, they are used to shafting people up the arris

I would suggest when you go after one of their own it would be difficult to then ask for help.

I definitely smell change in the air after this is over for the first time ever the rumblings from the elites to the poorest seems to be a similar goal.

Time will tell I guess.

They shouldn't give ANY money to the govt

They should be helping people at local and grass root levels.

Maybe because it has nothing to do with helping the country…it’s just one more money grab/shakedown attempt by a very shameless and very greedy government.

Set an example, donate the land you gave your father.

May be due to a high volume of corruption TIT

Why are some people dissing the billionaires? This mess is not their fault. Do not assume that I think that the billionaires are zippidy doo, altruistic, nice types but the current leaders are at fault here not the billionaires.

A true leader leads by example, not by sending out begging letters and blaming non-politicians for not coming to his rescue. The leaders are not poor, they just have unexplained wealth.

A classic case of blame deflection.

Prayuth is exactly the kind of PM that all those idiots who supported Suthep and his Bangkok Shutdown deserve.( including posters on this forum ) I have no sympathy for any of those morons  who were patting themselves on the back for overthrowing democracy. Just too bad everyone else has to suffer the consequences as well.

As for Prayuth , sold some land a couple of years back for 600,000,000 baht to a new company based in the British Virgin Islands with no other business on their books. So he is not far short of being a billionaire himself. He should set an example , not be asking for others to donate. Supposed to be the great leader not a foot dragging follower.

Looking down on those you consider to be below you is an art form in Thailand.  The upper crust is entirely devoid of compassion for the 'little people' below them.  "Let them eat rice straw in their fields along-side their buffaloes."  The only time that tune changes is when a billionaire wants to run for political office.  Then they pretend to be like the untouchables long enough to get elected.  Unless your name is Taksin.  One billionaire out of the bunch who stayed on the radar of his supporters.  Look at what happens when you develop a relationship with the hoi polloi.  Exile. But who knows, the winds of fate are fickle.  After the economy is burnt to the ground and the uber-riche have drained all the remaining wealth out of the crumbling dregs of the economic rubble - a truly angry, desperate population may pave the road for an exile to return back with open arms.

Why is everyone dissing the billionaires?

Because they are not part of the solution unless the solution entails making them magnitudes wealthier and the rest of the population magnitudes poorer.  The era we live in is progressively becoming neo-feudalism.  How many hundreds of billions do a handful of creeps need when the masses can't get any relief at all.  Why diss them?  Most are no longer human.  Just human-shaped vessels totally consumed by greed.
