RE barscene: there is plenty of material on the topic in this forum, about the pitfalls for an unsuspecting young chap engaging with ravenhaired beauties working in the bars or around them.

It might all seem like a lot of fun, but consider also the health and other hazards, imagine the discrepancy between their village life and the reality presented to you in Bangkok, don't forget the global political dimension.
