PHUKET:-- The first of some 40,000 people who have registered to leave Phuket to head back to their home provinces will be able to leave the island from 5am tomorrow (May 1), Phuket Vice Governor Supoj Rotreuang Na Nongkhai has confirmed.

V/Gov Supoj broke the news in a live video broadcast this afternoon on the official Facebook page of the Phuket office of the Public Relations Department (PR Phuket).

V/Gov Supoj explained that those who want to leave the island must first register by using an online form or by informing their village head.

Be prepared for some changes here.   Apparently a lot of people have contacted the Checkpoint (Sarasin).and are being told that it is not opening.   Nothing official in writing from the Governor, as well as other provinces not being open for transit.

@pagallim So if you register claiming to go to Bangkok, will you have to get stuck anyway in Phang Nga or let's say you can arrive till the province you said is your destination and do the quarentine there? You know that part?

I am guessing that when you get to the Sarasin Checkpoint, you will be processed by the police there and given documentation detailing your final destination, and why you are going there.   There are probably many checkpoints that need to be passed on the journey.

This would also explain why there is a daily limit on the numbers leaving because of the time needed for processing.

What about Phuket residents who are currently not in Phuket, but wish to return there ?

Sorry, although I've read a lot about people wanting to return, I haven't seen what permissions are needed.

Expect another exodus of expats once the quarantines stop and flights resume. By that time Thailand could be a dry fundamentalist Buddhist state ran by an oppressive military junta. Just like the western neighbour.

Here's another snippet.   Those people in Phuket who wish to return home to Phang Nga, firstly Phuket needs to provide the names of these people.   They must also have a medical certificate (as not having the virus), then they must be quarantined for 14 days at one of the nominated hotels, for which they must pay for as well as their food.   People are leaving because they can't afford to stay in Phuket, so having to pay for a hotel in their home province is causing a lot of grief on social media.

Going by the fancy looking cars in the queues they;ll probably be able to pay for hotel rooms without too much grief.

It's the people who can't afford such transportation who'll really be in trouble.

My thoughts exactly.  Expats leaving, no tourists arriving, and still a strong Thai baht just to ensure the complete and utter desctruction of the tourist economy here.  Good job government.

Does anyone have a link to the QR code?

What I'm reading is that there will no longer be a QR code.   Instead, the administration is being done at the Sarasin Checkpoint, the phone numbers for which are below:

So now no need to register and no need for a queue slot?!

That I do not know.   What I suggest is that you call those numbers and ask for someone who speaks English.   As a guess, I would think there will be someone from the Tourist Police there.   You might get help from the Tourist Police contact number (1155).

Amazing Thailand, they like to be No.1... Economic meltdown, misery for only 54 deaths to date. That number of people on average are killed on the roads on a daily basis...

Make up your mind!  Is Phuket a zombie apocalypse that should be isolated forever, or is the whole thing an overrated hoax?

Don't you think it reasonable that all the unemployed prostitutes should be allowed to head home to your town?
