webfact
‘We Love Thailand’ campaign to stimulate domestic tourism By THE NATION The Tourism Council of Thailand is preparing to start its “We Love Thailand” campaign in collaboration with the Tourism and Sports Ministry and the Tourism Authority of Thailand to stimulate domestic tourism after the Covid-19 situation normalises, council president Chairat Trirattanajarasporn said. “This campaign will promote new local products and attractions, especially those involving tourism communities,” he said. Chairat also said domestic tourism needs to be promoted for one to two years while the market waits for foreign tourists to regain confidence. In the initial phase, it is expected that people from China, South Korea or Asean would return to Thailand, he said. “Thailand needs Chinese tourists as we recover,” Chairat added. “When the situation becomes safe again, Chinese will return to Thailand as our country is near. Moreover, the Chinese market has the capacity to expand.” Source: https://www.nationthailand.com/news/30387237 -- © Copyright The Nation Thailand 2020-05-04 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow Thaivisa on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates

He got that right. Domestic tourism can work if big discounts offered, but only after people are back to work first, and earn money to spend. International tourism except from China, will maybe resume next spring or summer, in small numbers compared with the past.

Popular Post JonnyF
Have they officially removed the TM30 reporting requirements yet? Or is it just not enforced until they decide to enforce it again? That would be a good way to get foreigners travelling domestically again. 6
Popular Post garrya
We love Thailand so much that promotion isn't needed at all. The whole world is eagerly waiting to finally step foot in Thailand. On another note, local tourism may help but having seen their spending willingness, it won't have a huge effect. 2

Outside 7/11" where I used to live in Isaan was a couple of benches with an ATM at one end and a refuse bin at the other. Students would hide their unused or partly used cartons etc., under the bench or behind the ATM rather than take two or three steps to the bin. I always had the cure for this by saying (in Thai) "You don't love Thailand" In a flash everything was cleared up. Love of country is used as a control tool.

Zikomat
The so called Chinese tourism only pays off when they come in huge masses. Anything less than that and this becomes not profitable. Don’t see the Chinese coming in masses soon. 1

Popular Post billd766
With anywhere between 10 and 20 million people unemployed, barred from travelling, forbidden to enter several provinces and needing 2 or 3 pieces of paper just to leave where they are now, how the <deleted> does he think domestic tourism will happen this year? Thais need food, somewhere to live, money to live on and jobs before any tourism will happen. I do wish sometimes that the people who come up with plans like this would wake up to reality. There are still some provinces where if you go there for a couple of days you will have to isolate at your own cost for 14 days before you are allowed out into society again. 15

Popular Post Cake Monster
" Thailand needs Chinese Tourists as we Recover " Well , blow me down with a Feather. Who would of guessed that the Thais would make an open statement of intent like this. Court the Chinese all you want, but remember precisely where Covid 19 originated, and the grief it brings with it. Court the Chinese, and the rest of the World will reject you, because they will never, ever feel safe in a Country that is over run with Chinese Tourists.

I have never had to do a second report on my TM 30 and I have even gone out of the country on travel. I have a year long contract for my rental and as long as it is only a couple f days IMM Pathum Thani told me she did not care. Same with travel around the country. Unfortunatley at this time they are the only market for ASEAN countries. Just like I am sure once everything is done Canada will flaunt it's low dollar to get Americans to come north. People are not going to be doing the long distance flying or high lifestyle that they used to. first because of fear and second because of lack of funds. I think we are gong to see some really good international flight deals once all is said and done. The one city that may prosper in the world is LAS VEGAS as all the major US Sports leagues need a location with the facilities and lots of hotel spaces. With LA saying o to sporting events look for the NBA to move it's games to Vegas as well as the NHL. As to domestic travel I think we will see the government in the fall do it's usual tax deferral but Pattaya and Phuket are still screwed. I can not see Thai families going to either location. Yes they will! They already do. Look at China news; their domestic tourism restarted already and domestic flights reincreased very quickly. BTW funny thing is that their main tourist location now in China is... Wuhan ????

Popular Post Burma Bill
Personally, I couldn't care less. Having lived in the North of Thailand for nearly 20 years, I could see the "writing on the wall" beginning to appear with the current pro-military elite, so having no "ties" I legged it to a neighboring country. My slogan "I LOVE CAMBODIA" - Siem Reap to be precise! 3

sucit
I believe countries that have gone through the worst of it are going to do the best when it comes to tourism when things start getting back to normal. In other words, more people will want to go to places like Italy or New York, because they have a very high % of people with antibodies and your chances of infection would be very low (hint, good time to stay away from other tourists in these cases). As it stands, nobody will want to go to places like Australia because it is an outbreak waiting to happen. The Nobel Prize winner Dr Levitt actually singled Australia out as one of the biggest losers, because they are shutting down but their infection rate is very low. They are basically destroying their economy all to most likely open back up and have a giant and rapid infection rate. And then what do they do, shut back down? When this is all better understood, who will want to visit a country like that? As often happens, what people think is good now, probably is not. This is worrisome for Thailand. Unless it is shown that large numbers have been infected here, it seems like they are just headed down the Australia path of "biggest losers" as Levitt put it. Popular Post Caldera
I thought the PM just issued an order that effectively prohibits non-essential inter provincial travel. I'd be more than happy to travel around in Thailand again, but I wouldn't want to worry about checkpoints and quarantine requirements individual provincial governors dream up. Oh, and I'd need hotels and restaurants to be open, at the very least.
