Shoppers may get two hour time limit when visiting malls

 

 

A two hour time limit for shoppers may be introduced at malls throughout the country, as Thailand looks at the next phase of easing restrictions put in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

 

At a media briefing on Tuesday, Prayuth Chan-Ocha said Thailand was preparing for the next stage of opening.

 

Some of the measures being considered by the Cabinet concerns the reopening of shopping malls, with people being given a two hour window in which to do their shopping.

 

There would be strict conditions under which malls would be able to reopen.

 

These include:

 

• There must be a limit on the number of people allowed to enter the mall at any one time.
• Anyone visiting the mall can only do so for a maximum of two hours.
• People should be screened prior to entering the mall.
• Screening must include people having their temperature checked and alcohol hand gel must also be available.

 

Meanwhile, the PM warned that Thailand could feel the economic impact from coronavirus for the next nine months.

 

"We expect the impact on the economy to last for quite awhile, not only three months, but possibly six or nine months," Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha told the news conference.

 

"We need to prepare measures to cope with that," he said.

Has he got any idea how malls would control a maximum number of people entering, when they've probsbly got a number of entrances?  Also how would they control the 2 hour time limit?   Solutions will be most interesting, I'm sure!

They simply open only one entrance and give you a piece of paper with the time when you entered. This you will have to show upon leaving.

Unenforceable in malls, what are they going to give a ticket when entering and what time to leave. This is just micromanaging people lives to the extreme.

So you could make a trip to a shopping mall only to be told 'sorry no can enter, full up'.

 

These malls have supermarkets attached, just to do your shopping for European goods takes 2 hours. What  if you want to stroll around before that? The whole point of a mall is to while away the time. There are restaurants. So no eating at restaurants and shopping?

Which is the reason they want to restrict it to 2hrs, only for people who may have a genuine reason to go there, and two hours may be sufficient for most. And discourage those who come in at 10am for the aircon, loiter around whole day, eat in food court and go back in the evening. What is so difficult to understand?

I can see the pros and the cons.

Malls aren't really safe now.

The number of people in them should be limited.

But if you've made a special trip and have a big list of things to buy including complicated things like electronics. metering you means you'll have to come back soon which kind of defeats the purpose.

I guess they could enforce with time stamps and a fine if you're over. So rich people will just pay it.

I might want a tshirt and have a look around every shop before deciding, then a coffee and then look at some mobile phones, it might take 3 or 4 hours if I have the free time, and it's no one else's business how long I take!

Issue a limited number of coloured wristbands at the points of entry entry. Just like they do in some swimming pools. Each colour gets a 2 hour time frame.

 

Some folks might transgress on the time of course, but come on, how many people want to spend more than 2 hours in a shopping mall?

Looking at pretty girls in malls can take hours, sometimes multiple malls in one day and some tindering whilst drinking an iced coffee.

It is up to you. You can even drive to your shopping experience without caring about speed limits or traffic lights and simply park your vehicle wherever it is convenient for you. You can smoke inside the shopping mall and do always whatever you like.

It sounds ridiculous but these are the kind of restrictions that are going to be around for a long time once they gradually get partially lifted. 
 

 Nothing to stop anyone leaving after 2 hours and going back inside if they feel that way inclined. 
 

I assume they will have them digital counters at the entrance doors counting in and out.

I use big shopping malls only if i need to go to toilet. So 2 hours time limit more than enough for myself. I shop more at local markets to help the ordinary people.

If the cinemas are open same time the malls are, You can only watch half the movie if its over 3 hours.
