BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand reported six new coronavirus cases on Monday, bringing its total to 3,015 cases since the outbreak began in January.

The new cases were all in Thailand's southern provinces, including four on the tourist island of Phuket and one each in Narathiwat and Yala provinces, said Taweesin Wisanuyothin, a spokesman of the government's Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration.

Daily new cases in the single digits have prompted Thailand to begin cautiously reopening some businesses that had been closed to slow the spread of the virus.

The death toll remained at 56, while 2,796 patients have recovered.

I really don't understand. Were there cases on Phuket or not?

The headline before this posting was "Phuket officials report zero new COVID cases, total remains 224"

Edit: Sorry. I just read more closely "after 4 cases yesterday"

Thailand maintained its trend of single-digit new cases as six more people tested positive for Covid-19 while there were no deaths over a 24-hour period, Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesman of the government’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, said on Monday (May 11).

The total number of Covid-19 patients increased to 3,015, of whom 2,796 have recovered and been discharged and 163 are being treated in hospitals. The death toll remains at 56.

The group with the highest risk remains those who are 20-29 years old, he noted.

Thailand has reported single-digit new cases daily for several days in a row and the government has started to ease some of the lockdown restrictions.

Unlike most other countries, where it's the elderly and chubbys !!

Threw me too,

I think they have to define risk, risk from dying or from infection?

Risk from being arrested breaking the curfew maybe ??

Internment for 20-29 years old age group, and allow the rest of us to carry on with our lives.

Oh, and lock up those old fogies flouting the beach ban too!

Still a few cases every day. One GoGo bar in Nana BKK was boasting in fb it will be back open again in 6 to 8 weeks. I think that is wishful thinking.

One friend told me one GoGo bar in soi Cowboy had 21 cases with one death. If these places are opened up too soon there's a good chance of a second wave.

If they tested more they would find a lot more cases.

It seems the labs in Phuket and Yala have local testing capabilities, ie. they have the RT-PCR reagents in stock. That's why we're seeing reports from there, also independently of MoPH.

How about all the others? Still sending everything to BKK?

I reckon traits of youth somewhat level the playing field: inexperience, belief they are immortal, unwillingness to take good advice seriously....etc etc

So 163 then, not 3000+.

Why do they always give the historical number? No-one else seems to do that?

Is it because '163 people in hospital with COVID 19 related diseases' sounds boring?
