My Malay ex-GF had a 10 year US visa in an expired passport, the two PPs were stapled together and visa remained valid. She entered the US a couple of times (pre 9/11 mind) just by presenting both PPs to immigration.

Worth talking to the embassy as they may now transfer the visa to the new PP.

When she gets the new passport they will put a statement on the first page that says so-in-so previously had passport #XXX which has been canceled and returned. All visas contained in old passport are still valid.

A very common problem since the US issues 10 years visas almost every time these days and Thai passports are only good for 5 years.

Absolutely NOT a problem.  My wife is now on her second 10 year B1/B2 U.S. visa in her third Thai passport.

Her first passport expired, the one with the first U.S. visa, got a new passport, just carried both along on trips to the

U.S., and not stapled together.  My opinion, better NOT to staple them as she didn't need to carry the old passport along on local trips to Laos or Cambodia.

Got her a third passport, still carried the first one along with the U.S. visa on U.S. trips, worked fine.

Not to worry, it works.
