Deputy Transport Minister Athirat Rattanaset has urged the Port Authority of Thailand (PAT) to consider developing the logistics and tourism capabilities of Khlong Yai Port in Trat province.

He made his remarks after meeting with the PAT on Thursday (May 14), adding that the Marine Department completed construction of this multipurpose Bt1.3-billion port in 2015.

“The Transport Ministry’s logistics development committee resolved on August 17, 2018 that the PAT would manage the port and open its services within 2021,” he said.

“Meanwhile, we urged them [PAT] to consider developing the port as a centre of tourism and logistics in the eastern region, via public-private partnership [PPP] projects and other means.”

According to analysis, Khlong Yai Port’s net present value (NPV) is Bt8.38 million, while its benefit to cost ratio is 1.01 and economic internal rate of return (EIRR) is 12.13 per cent.

I looked on the map, there's nothing of interest there. Or maybe that will be the tourist attraction?

Ive been there several times, I'm sorry to say its not very nice! All the so called beaches from Trat to the Cambodian Border are filthy run down and deserted. Really really horrible. Sewage etc, deserted hotels in crappy state.

Trat itself has an area of very run down backpacker places, (two streets) which used to be busy many many years ago (before the ferries got really organised to some Islands.)

There are a few very good hotels, Boutique style, but of course you pay a lot for the name etc.

There is absolutely no nightlife whatsoever, so as they say "up to you"

Ah! Another possible Chinese Special Economic Zone?????

Now that would be great, send the Indians and Chinese to Trat, what a fantastic idea!
