Since he knew he masterminded that to the irritation of others, all the more reason to stick to the rules. He flaunted them because he thought he could get away with it, and, with some upheaval, it looks like he was right.

They went to Durham so the sister could provide assistance for shopping taking care of the their son if they felt they could no longer provide the care themselves

Cummings and his number 10 minions have all said that he drove his family drove to Durham before Cummings got ill so that his family could look after the child if he did join his wife in fighting the virus! Which contradicts his wife's Spectator article in which, as your quote shows, she goes to great lengths to describe how her son helped nurse his father!

 

In addition, you are correct when you say "The article in the Spectator doesn't mention Durham." Wakefield makes no mention of the trip to her husband's parents; no mention of that trip being so her husband's family could care for her son; not once. Considering all the other minute details she went into in that article, such as "The little oxygen reader we'd bought on Amazon" that seems a little odd.

 

Instead she describes in great length how the boy helped in nursing his father! How did he manage that if both his parents were in self isolation and he was being cared for by his father's family?

 

It seems that Cummings and Wakefield have failed to get stories straight! Maybe she forgot what she told The Spectator.

It says "Not leave the house for 14 days." It doesn't say "Drive 260 miles to your parent's house."

 

To be fair, it does also say

A man who claims he saw someone who "looked like" Dominic Cummings on a family walk 25 miles outside of Durham during lockdown has filed a complaint to police.

Retired chemistry teacher Robin Lees wrote down what he described as a "distinctive" number plate.

 

He sounds like a bit of an obsessive to me. That's another negative coming from the Covid 19 crisis; the number of Robbin Lees' this has created. Busy bodies spending their time snooping around for rule breakers. We had one at the local park. She was continually badgering the park attendant to go and stop people from exercising in the rose garden area. 

 

Mr Lees must have thought he'd hit the jackpot here. It's amazing how these trivial matters can be so high up on some people's list of priorities during a global pandemic. Including many people on this forum ????

Yes the lock down to a degree was largely voluntary in spirit and everyone who stayed home, stayed away from loved ones, who suffered and left others to suffer; they did so by choice. Because it was the right thing to do, not because they feared the anaemic to non-existent enforcement. I think the rage people feel at the likes of Cummings taking the absolute liberty comes from a place where everyone knows that lock down was (they've got me talking in the past tense now, I notice) voluntary, where we all thought it was a social contract, a collective sacrifice. One that was all the more galling for being made largely as a result of Cummings and Johnson's ideology-driven refusal to protect the public in the first place.

 

This is probably not the thing that finishes Johnson off. But it's an important moment, if only as a particularly blatant example of the pattern that's defined the entire country's experience throughout this crisis: ordinary people suffering on account of people who wouldn't break their stride to help another living soul.

I hadn't realised until just now that Cummings' son has Autism. Autistic children have very specific care needs, so those saying his son could have simply been palmed off to the brother-in-law in London are wrong. 

So we had household with the mother suffering from Covid 19 and the father very likely to contract it, and a 4 year old kid with Autism. Any parent who says they would not 'stretch' the government guidance to bring their child to an area with closer family support is either lying, weak minded, or cannot think for themselves. 

 

Also I think BJ and DC deserve some credit for not playing the autism card throughout this witch hunt.

Well Teflon coated Billy Bunter Johnson is at it again. Going well against public opinion and some of his Tory colleagues defending that psychopath Cummings. The scruffy ragbag should never have been allowed through the front door of number 10. Either Bunter is bricking himself with the thought of not having Cummings to lean on or Cummings has some dirt on Billy........ It'll turn nasty and will be another nail for Johnson
