A 10-vehicle smash-up in Nonthaburi caused a traffic jam stretching for several kilometres all the way to the Sombat Buri Market entrance after the pile-up blocked all inbound lanes on Kanjanapisek Road in Bang Yai district near the exit of Central West Gate department store yesterday (Sunday) afternoon.

There were no reports of any deaths or injuries.

The accident happened when a car rear-ended a pick-up truck that was carrying motorcycles, causing eight other vehicles that were behind to crash into one another.

Traffic police were dispatched to help divert traffic in the blocked lanes to a bypass road.

Do they teach about minimum vehicle to vehicle distance in Thai driving schools?

Whenever i see the Word Market the Walking Dead springs to mind. Thais turn into Robots. Folks run over, vehicles rear end every week at our Tuesday one held on the edge of a fast hi way. No one cares, its just one of those things.

No just give them a week.!

bet it was the Cop (that rear ended the first rear ending car) that shoved all the blame onto the car in front of him eh!

That road is a nightmare virutally every day...Sundays it is never a good idea to drive near Central Westgate

and how many were using their phones I wonder, can rarely drive around without seeing thais driving/riding with their phones stuck to their ears or texting, then again with the extremely pathetic driving schools they have no idea how they are supposed to stay alert to what is happening around them when on the roads anyway

Nope , only social distancing in shops.  Cant see the red lines on the roads...but it will come. What about stickers in the rear windows.  ' If you can read this you are too close '.

Using a Phone is stretchin it. They have been Hands Free for years except in Old Sheds.

Even using a phone hands free has been proven to be a distraction and does lead to the inability to focus on the road ahead.  Just best to turn of the sombitch and turn it on when you get to the destination.  If the wife or significant other throws a fit, then f-em.

Well if you are sharing it live and you have an accident then they will see what you had for breakfast up close and personal as the phone becomes one with your mouth and the food comes back up, or the micro phone is swallowed, one of the two....

Here is one of many studies to show how wrong your thinking is.

Whether it is hand-held or hands-free, the conversation is the distraction, regardless of what the laws say

would be interested to see research that supports your view as the consensus seems to be using hands free is dangerous
