All these plans seem to use the same overall approach. I wonder if there's been any discussion to replan the quarantine in some way or implement another form of safeguard etc. 

 

E,g, is there now a foolproof (?) test (I read where a new professional test gives the result in 15 minutes) that could be executed on arrival. Could that be used to much reduce the quarantine time. A test on arrival, quarantine for 48 hrs (?), retest, if negative all done.

 

Yes something like this (could be several configurations) would take some organizing but if it brings mass numbers of tourists back to the Thai economy maybe worth considering.

Don't forget that 14 days vacation in Thailand is most common among tourists. Who wants to spend time in a very expensive quarantine before the vacation starts? The answer is NO ONE.

They jumped on board the narrative that a type of seasonal flu that has a 99.96 survival rate (significantly higher in Thailand) is going to kill everyone.  And with this tale in place they, along with most of the rest of the "leadership" in world, dictated Machiavellian controls on their citizens movements and crashed their economy.  But in return the "leaderships" assumed virtually dictatorial control over their populations.

Now that they have virtually total control (a power junkie's dream), they are unable to see a way out of economic carnage while still promoting the "Virus Will Kill You All" narrative.

The "leadership" are victims of their own success.  At some point in time they'll mandate a liquid substance to be shot into everyone's arm and the "crisis" will end just like that, and the drug companies who created the "vaccine" will make massive profits.  Well, until the next pandemic is spun up.  After tasting that delicious control once - "ummm tasty" - the power-junkies will need additional hits to satisfy their cravings.

No tourist is going to consider spending money and coming on a holiday if that holiday has to be spent locked down in a quarantined facility.  All hotels and tourism related businesses are guaranteed to go bankrupt and close causing hundreds of thousands of Thais to lose their jobs and incomes.

The technology to allow a quick test is vital. 

 

Before anyone says this doesn't exist - security at the WhiteHouse in the USA, has everyone tested (takes 10 minutes) before they come in close contact with the president. The key would be to a have a mass roll out testing technology that was affordable.

It is a very difficult situation. Even NZ is havibg trouble with protocols broken & the NZ public

going bananas over 2 ladies from the UK allowed to travel on comassionate grounds.

The virus does not make exceptions.

Do you really think tourists can be trusted to do the right thing ? Think again.

The UK is still discussing which tracing app to use. (But they are 3 months behind in their fight anyway, thanks to Boris being very slow on the uptake)

The US is (as was to be expected, with "the goose"  in control ? have not even reached their peak 

if take yesterdays figures as a guide.

India, Indonesia, Sth America, Africa, & the Arab countries are experirencing the curve still going up.

Thailand is 6 months ahead of most countries in their containment & control & yes I am surprised but they are.

Opening up to International travel would at this time be like setting off a time bomb, it is not possible.

without running the rist of a total re infection.

Their quandry is do they risk that or like NZ & Oz keep it tight for at least another 2 months.

Qantas has just announced no flights until early October (they must know something)

I like you all just do not have a constructive answer at present.

 

Sure, open up all local businesses, but many will still struggle for total lack of custom anyway, but

Lifting travel restriction with mandatory quarantine is a different matter, and has NOTHING to do with tourism.  Members here are mixing this up with long stays on tourist visa, which will serve them personally, but not the tourism industry as a whole.

It would be a first step if the Thai government would learn to differentiate:

- Allow in foreigners who go into quarantine because they stay for a longer time: All

- Tourists: New concepts like travel arrangements with other countries, testing, etc.: Selectively

From my friends still practicing in the medical field they are telling me they are seeing a reduction in the aggressiveness of the virus. People who have acquired the virus are overcoming the infection at an increasing rapid rate. Hopefully, the "Herd" immunity will lessen the impact and things will return to normal as before Covid-19. If anyone expects the "low dollar" mass Chinese tourism will rescue Thailand's tourism industry then they are sadly mistaken.

 

3) The countries mentioned in previous travel bubble schemes do not have enough population to greatly affect tourism. Australia has less about 1/3 the population of Thailand. New Zealand has the population of about 1/3 of Bangkok. Get real people.

 

4) The key to successful tourism in not in masses of tour bus Chinese on package deals that they payed for in China. The key is attracting tourists who will actually spend money here. Further, the biomass of millions of low dollar Chinese will contribute to disease, infrastructure degradation, resource depletion and pollution far greater than their economic contribution.      

 

I could write a few thousand more words but it would all be in vain. The elite in Bangkok will do what is best for themselves personally and not what is best for Thailand.

So they proposed that the traveller is tested within 3 days of flying, has a medical certificate and insurance before departing their country of origin. The individual is then tested again when arriving in Thailand but even all these steps are not enough for the CCSA. No one will go to Thailand if they have to do the above and still Quarantine for 14 days not to mention no insurance company cover for Covid19 since March.

The projected Covid19 cases for the Americas and Europe in the northern fall/winter period do not look promising. you can probably apply that to the whole northern hemisphere. Thailand should just effectively write off tourism for this year and work on how they can stimulate the economy domestically or they will end up becoming the next big casualty.

Sure, but it's not a binary (no international travel or you will be in the same situation as the aforementioned countries). Plenty of countries in the region that have done a successful job and you can start resuming travel with. New Zealand eradicated the virus. Taiwan has 60 days with no local infection, etc etc. It's time to start some opening up of international travel with sensible precautions. Keeping the world shut until there is a vaccine makes no sense.

 

Seems like Thailand has done a good job and is in a good situation now, but we don't know the whole story here, and it seems like they got lucky for reasons which are not fully known.

Actually seems they do. Starting June 22 Taiwan will start allowing business travelers from Thailand and other low and medium risk countries. "The low-risk countries/regions include New Zealand, Australia, Macao, Palau, Fiji, Brunei, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Thailand, Mongolia, Bhutan. Medium-risk countries/regions include South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore." This has also been reported in Taiwan News and the Bangkok Post. Before Thailand was extremely lenient and now it is being excessively cautious. The problem is on the Thai side I think.

Also interesting to note that BKK Post has an article today about Thailand using this situation to reset to being a destination for wealthy tourists and to move away from backpackers and tour groups. So the usual kak about high quality tourists again. Not surprising seeing that they shot down travel bubbles on the same day.

Not sure of the others but currently Australia wont let Australians other than Diplomats and Medical experts travel anywhere outside of Oz, but there is talk of a bubble between Oz and NZ that will be for holiday makers.

Qantas just grounded all flights until October so I'm guessing someone high up has whispered in their ear

Sure, but it's a start. If travel bubbles are agreed upon, then more could be allowed. The main point I wanted to make was that countries with high quality epidemic control did actually see Thailand as low risk and it could be possible to set up a travel bubble if the nations involved agreed upon it.

I just read an article in of the local rags(not going to mention which rag because I got a warning from a mod) that the newest strategy will be to target wealthy foreigners who will stay in one location for an extended period.  The article further stated the days of mass  tourism consisting of the likes of backpackers for Thailand is over????? Really??  This could be another sign that the leadership has no idea what they are doing?  July 1 is fast approaching and no indications what the new entrance policy for the masses will be.  

 

If one has to leave the country this year then have a backup plan to make it a one way trip.

It's true of most. I had a letter in April from my provider to say any holidays booked after March 30th will not cover Covid. 

 

It's great to see AXA still covering but what's their price compared to a normal one off policy of £30 to £40. Not that we have a choice as still no international flights, hotels, difficult to obtain a medical cert etc etc

I had that one way trip planned for March 29 and the border closures on March 18th blocked me before I could flee back to Taiwan. Flight I got onto was 2 hours too late to board as EVA staff and service in BKK was useless. Now I am stuck waiting for Taiwan to let me back (unable to incorporate from outside the country) in our maybe Laos, but that would really be aided if the powers that be agreed to some kind of travel bubbles with nearby states who have dealt with the pandemic well. Seems like they may be using this horrible situation to get rid of those of us they deem unworthy to be here.

Tell me ONE GOOD THING the government did that saved Thailand from this mess. 

 

During the height of the pandeminc, they were still letting in gallons of Chinese citizens into Thailand. It was only China that put a stop to their citizens leaving. 

 

There was no mass testing, and testing is still very poor.

 

It is by sheer luck and some scientific miracle (that will need to be studied) that they escaped the kinds of mess Europe and the Americas are in.
