The Department of Airports is overseeing a steady increase in the number of routes and flights offered by two airlines, while new routes will open after the fourth phase of lockdown easing.

Director general Tawee Gasisam-ang said Thai Lion Air on June 19 increased flights from Bangkok to Nakhon Si Thammarat airport to two per a day.

Flights to Surat Thani Airport have been increased to three flights a day, while the service to Ubon Ratchathani is operating daily.

Thai Lion Air has also opened new routes from Don Mueang, with services to Udon Thani (two flights a day), to Khon Kaen (two flights a day), to Krabi (two flights a day), and to Phitsanulok (one flight a day).

The director general said that Thai Vietjet will operate the following routes from Suvarnabhumi Airport:

Udon Thani, two flights a day, starting from July 1.

Chiang Rai, one flight a day, starting from July 1

Khon Kaen, two flights a day, starting from July 30.

Nakhon Si Thammarat, one flight a day, starting from August 6

Ubon Ratchathani, one flight a day, starting from October 6

Surat Thani, one flight a day, starting from November 4.

He said his department officials had imposed virus-preventive measures on the airlines.

Just can't wait to go to Ubon Ratchathani on October 6th.  Anyone know what's there?  And anyone know where it is?

There's a temple, some soi dogs, a 7/11, and a pub with no beer. Well worth the flight. Shouldn't be more than 199 baht return.

Interesting that Thai Vietjet are starting service to/from Khon Kaen. That ends THAI Smile's monopoly on the Swampy route.

One of the good news.

Also LION adding to Don Mueang with good promo prices in July (1000 all incl.).

Gives access to places within a one hour drive or so, otherwise have to cross BKK to fly anywhere near from Don Muang. Also can save an overnight in BKK if your incoming international flight is timed right easy to connect

It's a very good option to have if you live in that area

Yes indeed, and possibly THAI'S sole use of Departure Lounge 1 at Khon Kaen. Air Asia, Nok Air and Thai Lion Air all have to use Departure Lounge 2. International Departure Lounge 3 is for Air Asia"s "Fly-Thru" passengers only.
