I'm having a strange problem with my Kindle Paperwhite 2.

It's quite old (2013) but still works fine except that it does not 'see' my router so I cannot get wifi connectivity - not that I normally bother anyway so this is an irritation, rather than anything serious.

I disable 'aeroplane mode' to turn on the wifi.  The device then 'sees' every router in the vicinity, apart from mine!  Neither my main SSID or my guest SSID appear on the list of available connections.

I guess that this must be caused by some setting on the router (Asus DSL-N55U) but I can't find anything obvious.  All other devices on my LAN have no problems.  I wondered if there was some sort of b/g/n incompatibility but, according to the Kindle specs, it should be able to handle all of these protocols.  It only does 2.4GHz but the router puts out 2.4 and 5 so this shouldn't be a problem.

Puzzling and I'm sure that it used to work, some time ago - but maybe with a previous router.  I only use the wifi for the dictionary facility - always side-load books via USB - so, as I said, it's just an irritation.

Any ideas?

An odd situation.

Have you re-started the Kindle?

Have you used your mobile to check that the 2.4 Wi-Fi SSID is visible ?

Yes and Yes.

All other devices on my LAN connect with no problems.

The LINSSID utility also confirms that the router is broadcasting both 2.4 and 5 GHz.

Check the WiFi channel that your router is using. If the Kindle was bought in the US it may not see channels 12-14 because they are not approved by the FCC but they are used in Thailand.

If that is the case, just manually set the 2.4GHz WiFi channel between 1 and 11.

No, bought locally and my LAN is on channel 11.

Does your SSID contain spaces  or special characters eg:  my 2.4 g wifi @ home

try changing to my_2_g_wifi_at_home.

No, just letters.

I was wrong - the router was using Ch 13.  The Kindle, apparently, was imported from Japan but was bought locally in Thailand.

I have changed to Ch 10 and now things appear to work,

When all else fails and the Kindle cannot see the router. Best thing to do is paint some eyes onto the Kindle.

I have Kindle tablets and recently had problems. Mainly downloading apps etc, saying they don't deliver to my country!!! <deleted>!! Had a 3 hour chat with their Singapore chat line. After resets, reboots, clearing caches and him doing something his end the problem went away. I believe Amazon, same as others are doing the 'Apple' thing of making problems with older kit so you look to buy new. You used to, partly still have, the cloud for your apps you can use on all your devices. Now some will only download to one device and older apps have stopped being supported on newer devices. All my books are still available but got charged last month for a free one!!

Still glad I dumped my Ipad and that some time ago!! 5555????????????????
