I download them always for free, it makes no different where I stay in the world.

Watch them with snacks and wine.

My last instance of this made me absolutely livid.

I was in Europe and went to the cinema on a Saturday evening.

My brother went to watch the same movie, in the same cinema, but at Wednesday lunchtime.

I paid 3 times the price!!! Simply because of what day I was available!

I was furious.

It is called dynamic pricing. Widely used in many sectors, e.g. electricity.

You seem to have no clue about pricing strategies and their reasons, and get mad about nothing but yourself.

Just have to stop all the dual pricing of goods that are for sale with no price tag on them.

If I want anything above 200 Baht, I send in the Missus to buy it for me.

She will offer to do this saying ~ you go, cost more Money - sure ~

About 10 Minutes later, I return  and look at the same thing, and usually ( but not all the time ) when I ask the price, it has increased about 50-100%.

I then put the item back and walk out making a mental note never to return to that that establishment again.

The indignant look upon the Shop owners face when I refuse their excellent price is special.

I usually hang around and listen to Thais from Bangkok bartering. In the North the local price for Khun Muang (northern folks) is usually cheaper. I then tell my wife that the so and so from BKK paid X. She knows that a starting point and with northern charm is offered a better price. I bet all over Thailand and other countries locals get a break over outsiders. If my wife isn't around I ask in khum muang and usually get the best price and sometimes better than my wife.

But overall it's supply and demand that governs price. All merchants want to get the best price. Speaking the language and local dialect works wonders. I've even had park rangers wave us through after asking simple questions in Thai , but I make a point of leaving a donation anyway.

I don't go to a lot of touristy place because there are too many falongs.

hahahahah, you are so wrong its not funny, thats not dual pricing, a mans cut is very straight foward and easy, a womans need to be styled and takes longer, do you get you hair cut like a man gets his cut when you go to a haidresser, I doubt it very much and, in the west women want their hair styled so they dont look like a bag of sh*t

Khao Kheow Open Zoo. Thai price 75 baht until the 30th of September. Foreigner price 250 baht.

Why, when there are no short term foreign tourists in the country?

Thai, philosophy in a hotel, if there are very few guests, just rise the room rates and the food prices,  and split the loot among the  employees.

Now 2/3 rds of the hotel's are closed down, never to be re-open until 2025

Cut your own hair, or get a family member to cut it for you.

This is Thailand; who gives a <deleted> what we look like?

To much of this preening and prancing and 'scent for men'.

What they could do for national parks to give locals a better deal is to make a tax deduction.

Basically everyone pays the same Price. But people paying tax in Thailand can send the receipt to the tax department and get part of the entry price withdrawn from their taxes the next year.

It's not worth the hassle thou. But it would be fair.

They can easily solve this without actually stopping dual pricing.

For example:

Thai: 50 Baht

Foreigner: 250 Baht

Change it to:

250 baht

*Show Thai National ID to receive 80% off

Problem solved

Well you're a bit of there and can't be compared. It does take more time to cut a lady.

I've lived in Thailand for well over a decade. I have no problem with dual pricing. I don't pay taxes and I enjoy a lifestyle I could never afford in my country. I'm happy to pay the "farang" tax as my contribution for being there. I'm not wealthy by any means, but I can afford the farang price more than the average Thai can afford the Thai price.

Yes, that's how they do it in some places in Europe, but they do check the IDs, they don't base the prices on whether you look European or Asian.

On the other hand, you opened a whole can of worms with this, showing that the way dual pricing works in Thailand is just the tip of the iceberg of a huge problem of institutionalized racism. To be fair, farangs usually benefit from this racism, but nonetheless an issue that unfortunately doesn't look like it will change anytime soon.

You don't pay tax but you don't receive anything either, such as free healthcare or the ability to completely own a business in Thailand or even own your house and a piece of land.

It's good to look at the positives though, but don't make the mistake of thinking that paying a bit more at national parks is all of your "farang" tax. Your "farang" tax is much, much bigger than that.
