Cabinet to consider extending visas beyond July 31 for stranded foreigners

 

 

Foreign Ministry’s deputy spokesman Natapanu Nopakun announced on Friday (July 17) that a third automatic visa extension will be proposed to the Cabinet soon.

 

The Cabinet had previously decided to grant automatic visa extension for foreigners stranded here to stay until July 31.

 

He said the Immigration Bureau is preparing to propose a new round of automatic visa extension to the Cabinet and has advised foreigners to keep an eye out for updates.

This would be a good thing, and much appreciated.

 

Another good thing would be letting us know far in advance so that we can make proper plans and adapt to whatever is proposed; letting us know at the last minute does as much harm as good. Further, clarity on all the ME NON O/NON B Visas would be great; how to solve the problem of not being able to do a 'border bounce'?

 

But, to reiterate; a good, good thing.

It's the 17th now. Whether yes or no, your decision should have already been declared.

Below is a look at some of flights cancelled just for today at Swampy. Unless the situation changes by July 31st, I don't see where the officials have any other choice but to expand the extension. If they say no, where are people supposed to go? Right now, there ain't much of a way out of the country...

These posts are useless, these flights were canceled months ago. TG is belly-up until 1 Sep (earliest).

 

There are flights out, Qatar Airways is a good place to start.

Thai is down and has cancelled all flights for August too.

Other flights go steady. Lufthansa group e.g.

A mate has left on Austrian last week to Berlin via Vienna.

Many other destinations reachable.

Particularly Europe.

There are few countries left that can not be reached.

 

If you go to Suvarnabhumi departure floor you will see the displays full of flights.

THAI airways has canceled all flights until September so It is no surprise they show canceled.  Try and book one and see if it will let you book a flight for next week, just do not pay for it...lol

Correct, I cannot see what all the fuss is about everyone (Thai business) is complaining that they do not have customers and yet the government want to kick out the small percentage of foreign customers they do have in country out of Thailand, in anyone's language this make absolutely no sense as the ones stranded here do not pose any risk and as mentioned above are spending money so what is there to loose, it makes absolutely no sense .....!!!!!

In fact yes a lot of 'regular flights' have been converted to cargo & it kinda matches with reports of very low passenger load in the cabins. Would make sense as incoming flights are not allowed to carry (ordinary) passengers so how many outgoing passengers could they get?

Agreed. 

That's why people qualified to come in now cannot just book any commercial flights to here. As commercial flight but cargo only. 

All waiting for announcement, so not much outgoing passengers. ????

Hopefully any extension will be short as there is little hope for those of us stranded outside Thailand being able to return while the amnesty continues.

Well, the enough time / "Clear Out" was from an "immigration spokesman" - before the latest unofficial, yet-to-be-clarified or official announcement. 

 

I suspect he knew what he was saying was false - just trying to drive-up agent-money payouts for his new car or similar, before the "grace period" was to be announced.
