I agree. Farangs with Thai spouses were once on a preference list, but the preferences apparently changed. Let's not forget: we have soldiers in the government, not diplomats, economists, high level diplomats etc., none of them with any empathy.

But most of these people are employed on the construction of new condos and hotels, mainly catering to foreign tourists. Since that industry is as dead as a dodo who in their right mind would press on with building these white elephants? There were far too many of them even before the pandemic began, looks like the government is in an economic  hole but fully intends to keep on digging.

Yesterday I tried to go to the alternative quarantine website and there was no response from the URL. That’s the URL on the Thai embassy website in Australia For applying to go to Thailand So I don’t know if that was a temporary glitch or just the norm. 
 

 

Workers from Cambodia, Laos etc, so even during mass unemployment due to the virus they still need workers to do the jobs are too lazy to do. How can there people possibly have $100,000US for insurance.

I would have thought that there are enough Thais out of work that it would be unnecessary to import labour for what are not exactly highly skilled tasks.

Category three (migrant workers) counts in the "all foreigners" class and has to get 100k worth of insurance?!!!!!

No migrant worker from any of these countries is going to have health insurance. They can barely afford to eat.

BTW, tourism only accounts for 10-20% of the GDP so they don’t really need to allow tourists in. Open everything back up and let the Thais get back to work without tourists. Same with every other country out there. I don’t think it is in any country’s best interest to open borders now.

100% correct, why allow migrant workers in when there are hundreds of thousand of Thai's searching for work.

If anyone would force me to go back to Germany, I would immediately come up with a German doctor's paper to prove that I have to stay in a sunshine country. 

 

And I'm also here for social reasons. I'm an orphan in Germany, and here in Thailand I have a family. Which might not be accepted by narrow-minded German neighbours, but I don't care about that cold <deleted>hole country anymore. 

 

BTW what would happen if I decided to move into one of these homes for the elderly for getting along with my arthrosis? Wouldn't that be a medical reason?

Fully agreed. Most readers on Thai Visa obviously fall in the English speaking tourist related section, so the perception is somewhat skewed. It's economic sanity to keep potential Covid spreaders out of the country, as long as there is no vaccine and no cure. Why risk 80% of the economy by letting tourists in with a slim chance that you get some of the 20% tourist income back? And the chance that you sustainably get back tourist income while the Covid issue is not resolved is very slim, since it will lead to Covid spreading in Thailand and worst case you end up with a situation in Thailand like in the US or Brazil. Who's gonna come then voluntarily? Unfortunately that also means I can't come for quite some time. There are too many people who don't have their act together unfortunately. The closest thing we have to a vaccine right now would be everyone wearing masks, but of course, many people know better. For too many people the answer to the question "Masks or lockdown?" seems to be "lockdown", thus the borders stay closed.

Interesting nonsense so how many will come no international airlines will bother to schedule flights to Thailand with these conditions as only few foreigners will find of any interest especially when they will have to isolate again for 14 days when they return to their home countries.

Sounds similar to UK and its legal/illegal immigration policy. Only difference is with UK you get a shiny new British passport after a few years, and plenty of freebies to help you settle in. Just scream "racist" and you get everything you'll ever need.

No, spouses of Thai's are already approved, albeit after 3 months of non entry. These are the additional types allowed to enter.

I am sure that all Myanmar and Cambodian workers can't wait to buy their $100,000 Covid-19 insurance; after all, the Government could have stipulated $200,000 or even more!
