Four types of foreigners to be allowed to enter Thailand: CCSA

The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) has in principle approved the sixth phase of lifting restrictions on some groups of foreigners, but is waiting for detailed guidelines on disease prevention from related ministries before an effective date can be announced.

Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, CCSA spokesperson, said on Wednesday (July 22) that this was done in line with proposals on boosting the economy from several ministries. So far, CCSA has decided that four groups of foreigners will be allowed to enter the country, namely:

1. Foreigners participating in trade fairs in Thailand, who will be allowed to only stay until the fair wraps up;

2. Foreign film crew who will follow a specific itinerary, which can be controlled;

3. Migrant workers from Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and Myanmar for the food industry and for construction. The government has decided to let these people in, so work can begin and the economy starts moving forward again. They are all required to undergo Covid-19 tests before entering the country and must spend 14 days in quarantine under the supervision of a public health officer;

4. Medical tourists.

All foreigners are required to undergo a Covid-19 test three days prior to departure, US$100,000 health insurance, booking for an alternative state quarantine, access to a liaison officer and use of ThaiChana application.

Meanwhile, the government will allow Thailand Elite cardholders to enter provided they undergo 14 days of quarantine at an alternative state site. So far, 200 people have requested access.

The Foreign Ministry is also discussing ways of granting access to tourists from Japan, China, South Korea, Singapore and Hong Kong as well as ensuring the safety of Thai people.

    So they will let in migrant workers even though unemployment in the country is through the roof, and pretty much deny anyone who is going to come in and spend money? I wonder what school of economics

  • So all migrant workers will need a USD$100K insurance? ????

  • All paperwork to be signed in triplicate by both Grandparents in green ink made from unicorn horn...

Good luck with those conditions...????

Well most of that caught me by surprise ! I would have thought Chinese, Indians, Dignitaries and more Chinese !

Medical tourists will still have to stay in state quarantine for 14 days?

What if an appointment is before, what if the condition is serious?

That means zero medical tourism. And how do they check those attending a conference? Rapid testing? Or no testing? Only from bubble nations? Does anyone in the administration have any answers?

I guess the husbands of Thai wives category was quickly abandoned? Nice. Compassionate. Of course we all know we are far less important to the nation than an attendee of a conference.

I think these are additional groups, not replacements of existing allowed returnees.

Does anyone know anything about this? And will the husbands be subject to quarantine, if they have a covid test result? How about if the Thai wife is traveling with them?

Because even though there is loads of unemployment the leaders of this country need cheap labor. The Thais won't do it. The rich factory owners wont pay enough and Thais wont do it. So I see why to benefit the rich again.

How is some laborer from one of the 4 countries able to afford 14 days of government quarantine. Makes no sense to let them in anyway as unemployment here is rife as well.

same thing in my country Canada, for example we can't get our crops picked unless we import labor - it happens in many countries and is not unusual at all..

Given the rigorous screening and restriction of the few foreigners allowed to enter Thailand this seems entirely unnecessary. Now every arrival is required to do 14 days state quarantine the likelihood of new Covid-19 infections is minimal.

So Elite are allowed in before those on retirement type visas.

I suspect they will be sent in government quarantine and Thailand pays for it. The quarantine facility could of course be just a shed and not an actual hotel.

Slave labor will be worked to death 6-7 days a week 15 hours per day and not entitled to travel outside their 100 meter bubble.

Thailand's biggest intranational food show 3rd week of September. Come and buy and then Get Out!

slightly OT...

I am, in Germany, officially married to a Thai woman.
However, I do not have any Thai marriage documents.
Would the German marriage document still be enough to get a COE?

(Apart from the additional <censored> which is needed?)

isn't the phrase 'dirty farang', getting past its sell by date, along with '500 baht and a wai' and 'falang'? can we try to be a little more imaginative and creative in our posts?
