Popular Post cyril sneer
At some water park with the partner and her son in rural isaan at the moment, After 3 beers the bar have used their 6-year old daughter to come over and get me to pay immediately. After paying, the partner asked the table next to us how much they paid for a beer - I’ve paid nearly double. I should have checked the price before fair enough, but normally never an issue in such areas. I’d leave a bad review but don’t want to end up in the monkey house. 1 4
Popular Post poohy
Don't know about your partner "Mrs Poohy " would have flagged the error up with appropriate management as it must have been an oversight??! 7 1

Popular Post SteveK
You know that in Isaan a can of beer is around 30 baht, and a big bottle is around 60 baht? If I was charged double I would know immediately purely from the size of the bill. They got the young girl to come and ask for the money so that if you kicked off they would just say that it was a misunderstanding. Typical Thai style, they want as much money as they can get their grubby little hands on but are afraid of a confrontation. Sometimes you need a beer when you are taking care of someone else's brats. I know, I've been there. My parents were always drunk when they were looking after me, that's why I'm like this. I agree that if he was smashed and could'nt walk then thats not nice when there are kids around. However a few beers while relaxing in the sun?? Nothing wrong with that at all.

Agreed, and if you take a walk around Sukhumvit, you will notice the bars with the for sale signs often don't have prices posted..just part of the uninviting, uninspiring, unappealing ambiance.
LawrenceN
So, yeah, looks like you were overcharged. But this is hardly among the "worst" examples. Try going to a boxing match at Kawila (miltary base) in Chiang Mai. You get charged hundreds of baht (I forget the actual number) for being non-Thai, and so do your wife and kid. Admission for Thais is free. 1 1

Popular Post BritManToo
I've always found the National parks demands for 400bht Vs 40bht to be more taxing. Popular Post peterb0576
Easy, my wife does the ordering, I just say make sure I can eat something, when the bill comes it goes to my wife, she checks it, if not happy will question the waiter/waitress till sorted. Everyone leaves happy and smiling, no loss of face as Thai talking to a Thai. I smile leave a tip and go. 2

Leave a glowing review saying you are so happy you were allowed to be overcharged, it will be a legal snakepit to sue you over that. (that is no legal advice, i dont know what i am talking about)

zoza
i went into a bar below the condo a few years ago, ok i was smashed i ordered a beer The wife followed me in and looked at the bin.... 750 baht The farang owner hung his head low an American mate of his tried to make out it was a mix up with his bin. The Thai bargirl was never the full shilling and at one point tried to tell people i fancied her she eventually got dumped by her Farang boyfriend and got sacked from the bar but she was still there for a year or so, but being happy go lucky i do wave to them as i go past. for me the worst Farang tax is when you get taxed by another farang, have seen lots of them at it. 1
