Thaksin gets 5 years for illegal shareholding and excise cut for mobile operators

 

 

Former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has been sentenced to five years in prison after being found guilty, by the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Holders of Political Posts, for illegally owning shares in phone companies with Government concessions and for conflict of interest by changing concession fees and excise taxes to benefit his family-owned company, Shin Corp.

 

The court heard that Thaksin held a majority of shares, through proxies, in Shin Corp, which was granted a concession by the state, in violation of the Constitution.

 

The case was suspended after he fled the country, but was revived after the promulgation of an organic law which allows the court to hear the case in absentia.

nothing new, everyone knew he was in it for the money and stole as much as he could from Thailand to benefit himself , his family and his friends

Trying to deflect their own malfeasance and corruption onto Thaksin worked before but it won't work for very much longer. Looks like the people are finally waking up and starting to take notice.

Innocent? I doubt it, he is as guilty as any other Thai politician.

 

However the important point is that no other country will recognise this politically motivated conviction from a court under a military led government. You savvy?

 

Interesting you now have so much trust in the Thai justice system. Weren't you on the other thread complaining about charges being dropped against the Red Bull guy? ????

Because Thaksin stopped them all, albeit temporarily, from stealing everything that wasn't nailed down, while taking a bit for himself. He also gave a few scraps to the poorest in the country, which did not go down well at all. 

 

Back to business as usual now though, as we can all clearly see.

Erm, there was no Red Shirt movement at the time of the 2006 coup that removed Thaksin. They didn't exist then.

 

The 2014 coup happened 4 years after the Red Shirts encamped in central Bangkok too, and at the time there was no threat from them at all.

Important to note he was a henchman for some of the Thaksin acolytes previously, but I agree it is totally beyond the pale.

Thaksin is wanted by the authorities .... possibly ASIO, FBI, IPOL, Army, Khun Prayut Chan O Cha and others ... and the Police and maybe CIA, AFP.

The problem was he made them all lose face (and income) when he got rid of Viroj from KTB. Viroj had been giving everyone personal loans and forgiving the debt. 

 

To look where it all started follow the money trail... Thaksin was dangerous to the status quo of only the few getting everything. 

 

The anti-Monarchy and corruption accusations against Thaksin all started through Sondhi Limthongkul's media company. Sonthi was Thaksin's former friend and ally and leader of the Yellow Shirts. He was also a close mate of Viroj and had over a billion baht worth of personal debt (as well as other business debts as his media company was in trouble) forgiven.

 

It's all a lakorn.

He is/was also wanted by the people of Thailand.

 

They wanted him to be the Prime Minister.

This regime with it's cronies has made a complete mockery of honesty with their self given amnesty of protecting themselves, silencing opposition and the manipulation of everyone and everything in order to stay in power. Look at all the Generals and politician's money for where it truly came from, and surely they jest thinking that everyone believes the toad man actually did not own those luxury watches, and that it is ok for a convicted heroin dealer to hold office.
