Thailand must welcome back Chinese tourists now says leading tourism chief

the stupidity of these Thai authority figures is getting boring and not funny anymore.. they need to develop different sources for economic stimulation as the tourist industry is on it's backside for this year and next year I believe... even if a vaccine is released.

If they do open borders up and lets pretend people do come and virus grows in Thailand what then? They will close the borders again, simple as that, so with second outbreaks appearing almost everywhere its stupid to talk about tourist industry.

One day, it's yes. The next day, no. And on...and on...and on. They're never able to make up their mind on this.

My only issue with the Chinese is that they're always the first ones on prawns and lobster's tails at my hotel's brunch????.

I would love either some hotels for Chinese only (and some with no Chinese) or 1 week in, 1 week off.

Call it segregation, I am fine with that !

And they are picking all cherries off the cake and leaving the cake itself for others to eat. I experienced that in a 5-star hotel in Bangkok.

As taken from the article:

"He was referring to companies - many of them Chinese owned or owned in Thailand through proxies - who are involved in organising group tours.

Much of the money ends up abroad and not in the hands of Thais."

So the Chinese should come to Thailand to enrich themselves?

Just what we need, the makers of Covid buying all inclusive holidays from Chinese travel agents spreading disease again whilst buying water from 7/11.

I guess that nobody with a common sense buys water from hotel mini-bars at 10-15 times the price in 7/11.

Foreign tourists in general - who spend an average of 50,000 baht each - must be encouraged to return. They spend 2 trillion baht a year.

Is that with, or without the virus?

Have you ever been to China? - Men and women spitting everywhere, and men peeing wherever they want. (Not so long ago, it was common for Chinese train travellers, who travelled home for the long holidays, and who had to wait for their train, to just release "#2" right there onto the tracks)... - Even if the Chinese did not release the virus on purpose, it could still have been released due to lax safety procedures and negligence.

Where did SARS originate, and where is the current Swine flu strain that is rampant in farms situated?

although hes mainly talking about the chinese he does mention a need to open up to all tourists which is a start.cuz all ive heard from the thai tourism industry so far is them being happy that thailand is shut. they're that lazy they would rather lose money than have tourists and have to do some work it seems. finally someone has spoken in the industry the need to let tourists back in again. lets hope there are some more people like him over the coming months.

Absolute bololkcs; Russians came in on a 7days6nights package on half twin/ABF basis at THB 19'600/person. They nurse a lukewarm Chang beer on the stairs of 7/11 - so where are the remaining average of THB 30'000/Russian?
Same for Southasians and the Chinese certainly dont blow that kind of money.

Another load of crock from the tourism corner; they must be enjoying specially good weed there, it seems!

Totally disagree with you.

Foreign tourism is necessary to boost the economy. What's tthe point if most of the money is going elsewhere?

Chinese come and go to places Chinese own! The money made goes straight back to China Thailand hardly get a bean!

need for a high level of marketing. They know very well about Thailand and would flood

Is the man mad??  Even Beijing has some areas locked down. Yes we want tourists back ASAP but not at the risk of a major outbreak.  If you need further details about China search YouTube for crossroads.

If and when the Chinese do come flooding back, will they be required to undergo a 14 day quarantine at their own expense?

No, I didn't think so.

Forget that, Chinese government will order their peple to visit China, like Thai tell us not to go abroad of face lot of hassles when back... Just political bla.. Bla.. Bla...

No chinese tourists will come for long time, not to any responsible in Thailand but up to China government, they will prevent their peple to come by order or hassles like set a quarantine when back from abroad, they do favor local tourism like Thai government do at best..

Thailand must be in a desperation if they are prepared to allow Chinese tourists back do they really believe that the Chinese had less than 4,000 deaths are they going to exempt them from the $100,000 insurance policy or the fit to fly certificate and will they be exempt from the 14 day quarantine rule which requires them to be locked up in some flea pit hotel in Bangkok

China in Focus is also very good, as is China Uncensored.
