Gov’t seeking reopening guidelines balancing safety, and economics

 

   

BANGKOK(NNT) - The Prime Minister has ordered related agencies to devise guidelines allowing foreign nationals to enter the kingdom under strict measures mandated by the CCSA, while the government is seeking to raise public confidence following a COVID-19 scare in Rayong last month, by holding a mobile Cabinet meeting there on 24-25 August.

 

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Health Anutin Charnvirakul, announced that the Prime Minister has ordered the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) and the Ministry of Public Health to find ways to safety allow foreign nationals to enter the country, in order to allow economic activities to proceed.

 

The initiative to allow foreign nationals to enter the country will be focused first on trade persons conducting business negotiations, as well as technicians and installers of specific machinery, whose visits are generally short and less than the 14-day quarantine period.

 

An allowance of limited international arrivals must ensure public safety and help stimulate local economies, and strike a balance acceptable to all sides, without raising complaints of unfair treatment among people required to enter 14-day quarantine.

 

The DPM and Public Health Minister also disclosed that the Cabinet will be holding a mobile meeting in Rayong on 24-25 August, in an attempt to boost public confidence in the province.

BANGKOK — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday said there is currently no plan to expand the list of foreigners allowed to enter the country, including retirees with homes and families in Thailand.

Press officer Yajai Bunnag said only four groups of non-Thai nationals announced in the latest regulation are permitted into the Kingdom at the moment. They include those holding a certificate of permanent residency, a work permit, those who have a special arrangements with the government, and migrant workers.

He is most likely saying this just because he's been ordered to do this when he does not want too.

So, are they saying that people on a short visit aren't likely to spread COVID-19? Really?

All tourists are welcome to enter the Kingdom,however it would please us more if you leave your wallets purses and credit cards in the skips provided before Immigration and return and board the same plane you came in....

If Tourist does 72 H covid test before flying and get tested at arrival and does 14 days quarantine,  why should there be categories ? After going trou all this Thailand should assume the Tourist who did go trou it should be Covid free right ? So' please explain categories?

Slowly they seem to understand that being No. 1 in Covid-protection is not sustainable for an economy.

A gold medal without a huge prize money does not feed millions of people.

 

They lost a lot of time to build up the infrastructure to contain ongoing virus infections. They only now establish PCR-test labs in each province, hard to believe.

No "tourist" is going to go come to Thailand under these conditions.

As much as I would like to return to Australia to see my kids and grand kids the 14 day quarantine on return, even if in a luxury hotel paid for by the Thais, could be a real turkey shoot.  Sharing the room with Cindy and Vicky would be bearable I guess but my luck may see me sharing with Abdul and Ahmed!

An explanation would signify that it has been planned, thought through, and executed by competent people. 

 

You are correct. The nation should be open, with zero restrictions, for anyone willing to jump through these hoops. Anything more than that is not only draconian, it is a sadistic punishment for the Thai people. 

I know this article references that fool that has a-nut-in his name but I personally would appreciate Thaivisa having such articles without a picture of him which instantly spoils my day. Thanking you in advance.

I’m anxiously waiting for the next crazy announcement no doubt it will be well publicised before the end of today’s business these people need to realise that without the easing of the restriction they have put in place very few overseas personnel are going to be entering Thailand on top of this the amount of individuals who have lost jobs around the world is going to effect those who will be struggling just to pay bills . I think Thailand can kiss goodbye to all forms of tourism until 2021 at the earliest.

Exactly, and the longer the leave it to ease these rules the worse it will be for the Thai economy.

Once the regulars tourists who use to come to Thailand find somewhere else in the region which is more tourist friendly and their money goes further they will kiss Thailand good bye and never return.
