Popular Post rooster59 Posted August 16, 2020 Popular Post Posted August 16, 2020 Husband punches shark to save wife in Australian shark attack Image: Reuters file photo (Reuters) - A man jumped onto a great white shark and punched it to save his wife when it attacked her on Saturday at a beach in Port Macquarie in the Australian state of New South Wales, media and officials said. The Sydney Morning Herald said that Chantelle Doyle, 35, was attacked by the 2 to 3 metre (6-1/2 ft to 10 ft) shark while surfing at Shelly Beach, and suffered severe lacerations to her right leg. It quoted Surf Life Saving NSW chief executive Steven Pearce as saying Doyle's husband jumped off his surfboard and onto the shark. "This fella paddled over and jumped off his board onto the shark and hit it to get it to release her and then assisted her back into the beach," Pearce said. "Pretty full on, really heroic." The Herald, which did not name the husband, said Doyle was treated at the scene by bystanders and paramedics and then flown to hospital, where she was in stable condition. Beaches in the Port Macquarie area were closed after the incident, Surf Life Saving NSW said in a statement, adding it was providing coastal surveillance of the area to help spot the shark. nausea Posted August 16, 2020 Posted August 16, 2020 Yeah, I heard this works, sometimes; better to do something rather than nothing, if one's defending ones loved ones. You may roll 100% on the dice. Most likely not, but at least you tried. 1

What has this to do with heroism? It's his wife and a shark has latched onto her leg and he is able to get to the shark and jump on it.

He was on a surfboard and had good positioning to jump on top of it. As a surfer and and a scuba diver, I wouldn't has hesitated, and I would not accept the label of hero for attempting to save my wife. I have dived and surfed around sharks many times over the years.

Not many people would have assisted. I suppose a hero could be defined as a person noted for courageous acts or nobility of character, e.g. he became a local hero when he saved the drowning child. a person who, in the opinion of others, has special achievements, abilities, or personal qualities and is regarded as a role model or ideal. My older sister is my hero. We all know about war hero's sacrificing their lives for the good of the country, etc etc etc. Your entitled to your opinion, as most are entitled to theirs, it's not everyday a bloke jumps on a shark's back to save his wife, so he's a hero in mine and others opinions, call him what you like, an average bloke, whatever 1 1

stevenl Posted August 17, 2020 Posted August 17, 2020 It seems there are more and more incidents involving sharks every year. Unfortunately no surprise with more and more people penetrating their territory, and humans attracting sharks for photo ops, quite often with bait.
