The government is running scared that protests here should break out as in other countries. My guess is that they'd instigate another coup to stop protesters.

Who is most "dis-satisfied," generally speaking, in a society?  The least capable and least-intelligent.  Who mobilizes them  as useful-idiots?  The most cynical and manipulative.

 

Meritocratic-systems - where natural-rank can come to the top - are difficult to create and maintain.  Even more so when "diversity" is in the mix.  As well, such systems are viewed as idealistic-weakness by ethnocentric-types, who can easily exploit and destroy them, as is happening to the West right now. 

 

Run war-games on 2 groups - those that 'cooperate with outsiders' (pass the ball to the 'other team') vs those a group that 'cooperate only with their own group' (pass the ball only to their 'own team-mates') and see which one wins every time.  It's sad, but true.

[Why Me]

Hats off to the students. And others, there were lot of older folk there too yesterday. I've been here 15 years and I had to rub my eyes to make sure what I was witnessing on FB live was real. The untouchable, supposedly inviolate ceiling finally being broken.

 

At least they were breathing fresh air there for a few hours at the DM. Hope they have a game plan to see this through though. There shall be resistance, very likely violent.

 

But at least this time the resistance has the benefit of hindsight (2010) and hugely interconnected social media. Tactically, what they need is a split in the army. Let's see.

Exactly. What do they hope to achieve? No, let's correct that. What do they think they will achieve? If they are realistic they must answer 'nothing at all'. Students cannot overturn an army, and the army re-wrote the constitution to ensure they cannot be outnumbered in a 'democratic' election. So that path is closed. They might eventually resort to burning down buildings, but similar action before merely brought a crackdown by the army. So back to square one.

 

If the students have any sense of realism they must know that the army is in power, will stay indefinitely, and there is absolutely nothing anyone can do to remove them.

How do you stage a coup when those who staged the most recent coup are those in charge. Are you saying they'll stage a coup against themselves? If not, a coup against who?

There are several ways to a satisfactory solution but none are with honour....just blood on their hands.  But to do nothing, to say nothing isn't a solution, just an admission they didn't try.

Every authoritarian regime on this planet rules in its own interest, or the interest of a small group only. Never in the interest the mayority of the people. Otherwise, they could hold an election. To be able to act for their own interest, they need helpers, followers without ethics, to suppress the interests of the mayority of the people, and to rape the country and steal its recources. Without such helpers and followers, no Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot Idi Amin would ever had been able to get the power.

Thais should be ashamed of themselves! The protest in Bangkok had less than 20,000 people from a population of 10.5 million in Bangkok! Guess they like being suppressed, with no job and no money! They have no one to blame but themselves! It will only get worse!

But most of the current protestors are students who at this stage in their life don't have a job to worry about anyway. That they may not have a job in the future is a problem that they will face in the future, a future that hopefully will never have a coup again.

 

Of course they have someone to blame. The junta are the ones to blame as they though that a coup is an easy way to gain more power, and how hard can it be to run a country anyway.

Interesting, in the school i teach in, normally about 20 or so from Matayom 4 sign up for the Army Cadet scheme. 

 

This year they got 8.

 

The "Galloping Major" a.k.a as the head of the PT department and OC of the cadet force is very down in the dumps!
