A survey conduced recently by tourism platform Agoda showed that Thai people tended to travel within their country, and the top province to visit was Chiang Mai.

The survey was conducted in numerous countries, under the campaign "GoLocal". The survey showed that people in Thailand, Indonesia, and the US had given priority to travelling domestically.

The top three destinations Thai people wanted to visit the most were: Chiang Mai, Phuket and Hua Hin.

Around 65 per cent of tourists in several countries under this campaign said they wanted to travel within their countries within the next 12 months while 35 per cent preferred overseas travel.

Well that analysis took a lot of work .....   they can't fly internationally anyway.

Hardly surprising as travel to other countries is now much more expensive  with more hoops to jump through and even impossible in many cases.

Next 12 months...very reassuring for the future of international tourism...

Will there be a 2021 high season?

Maybe not...maybe too early...

This survey is likely based on Pre-Covid stats, not taking into account the financial devastation facing many Thai people who won't be able to afford holidays, let alone even having a job to survive.

...yet TAT seems to strongly believe (and bring it up over and over again, almost like a magical mantra) that foreign tourists do NOT harbor the same preference, and that instead of vacationing in their own or neighboring countries they cannot wait flocking into Thailand in droves as soon as the country reopens its borders. Why is that? I just don't get it. Why this stubborn self-delusion?

My wife's homestay in northern Thailand is seeing this. She has had unusually high amount of business since reopening 8 June and forward bookings through to early January are amazing. She is set to make some serious money through to at least then provided COVID stays contained. But she is very aware everything could change for the worse really quickly.

35% were completely out of touch with currently reality and were due back in padded lock up by 6pm

You forget, that included in " Foreign Tourists " are the hordes of Chinese that are just waiting to escape from their own Country on a " Tour "
