Navy: Country Needs Submarine

BANGKOK, Aug 24 (TNA) — The Royal Thai Navy defended its project to procure a submarine, saying it was vital for national defense.

Navy chief-of-staff Adm Sitthiporn Matkasem said the navy was procuring a submarine in accordance with its national defense strategy and incomplete information about the procurement project might be politically motivated.

VAdm Thaloengsak Sirisawat, director-general of the Navy Operations Department, said the country needed enough resources to protect its sovereignty and maritime routes in the event of a maritime territorial dispute or clash in the South China Sea.

What? Yep I am sure that countries like the US and China will be quaking in their boots at the thought of having to take on Thai submariners.

  • They've got a useless aircraft carrier, been moored at Sattahip for years, open every year for Children's day! Came with four Harrier jump jets when they got it, all now useless and stuck on top

  • That is the BIGGEST load of codswallop i have read in a long time. Who/ what are they going to use a submarine against? Nobody can answer that because nobody knows.

Ha, ha, ha, ha!!!!

Couldn't make it up but just shows the altered reality and priorities of 'government' leaders and their backers!!!

God only knows what it will  take to wake the populace and the old adage about getting the government and leaders you deserve spring's to mind. Hope somebody grows a pair for their futures sakes...

They are going to defend CCP strongholds against the muricans as a good vassal state should.

Unfortunately I wouldn't be at all surprised if that aint what they want the CCP to believe

Actually probably about the best long term strategy the intelligence deficient buffoons in charge can come up with maybe they think the CCP will put them up when the serf's wake up and smell the coffee...

thai dictionary definition of 'national defense': " i dont want to talk about it anymore because there is no logic in it, next question"

Exactly what is the threat to Thailands national security that can be resolved with a Submarine??

Especially when considering the Gulf is too shallow (Av depth 58m).

Thailand is better off putting the Billions of Baht for the cost of a Submarine towards a social welfare system to avoid the country going down the drain when 20%+ unemployment is realised after they killed off the economy due to the Covid-19 hysteria.

National defense???..what a load of <deleted>...the only people they need to defend against is themselves and their idiotic driving skills....

As always these guys never really answer the real questions.  He’s defending the purchase of a submarine but it doesn’t look like he addressed the issue of the approval to purchase 2 more subs.

I just read on another Thai English language news web site that according to a poll 71% of Thais agree with buying submarines ??? ... What on earth .... Not sure I can post a link to it here ...

Delusions of grandeur .. an' what's it got to do with Thailand If it kicks off there .. leave aside their piddly little subs stand no chance against some of the big players kit that is likely to be shown off in the event of a ruck in that region they wanna get off the phone if are they gonna play subs ..

They could take the cash and 'say' they bought one, then report that it is deployed underwater on a mission, to be never be seen again.

Seriously, if it is for the upcoming South China Sea confrontation, considering China's heavy influence, investments, and ever increasing footprint in Thailand, which side will it be on?

Its a well known fact Laos has submarines patrolling the Mekong River.

Mind you they are remote controlled kids toys that can only be used when the river is flowing

.. incomplete information about the procurement project might be politically motivated.

It must make more sense in Thai - admit I didn't bother checking as low expectations for coherence on this one. Politically motivated as in withholding information or trying to say that critics' incomplete information politically motivated as to exploit ignorance....? Should have just went with whatever Covfefe translates as.

So Thailand wants to buy Chinese subs to use against the Chinese in case of future disputes with them, yea right

I got to the hanger deck area with a thai group of connected friends and then got tossed off by some low ranking dimwit as was not allowed. My close thai friends left with me and we want an drank beer and waited for the remainder of the group to finish and join up after.

The writing is on the wall guys those that refuse to see it are either blind or delusional.

Be prepared for the next stage.

Maybe they want to use the subs to protect their illegal fishing trawlers raping all the stocks of protected fish.

I thought that sort of thing was frowned upon in the navy.

Trawlers don't sail below the surface why would they need a sub for that? ????

Yeah usually you don’t make it up the gang plank.
