I know a few guys who buy on eBay. There are some good shops in Germany, where they buy totaled cars, cut them up in Eastern Europe, and sell the parts.

one problem might be to get a mechanic change them.

I just had our Airmatic system replaced, found all the parts on eBay, but no one here would change it if the parts were not new, so ended up getting it done at Mercedes Thailand.

There's usually 30% customs + 7% VAT on auto parts, did you need to pay that?

Thompson Garage in Bang Na will sell you genuine parts at less than  Merc dealership price.  They also have  'state of the Art' alignment equipment. They tend to be Merc specialists.

You should join MBEQTH and the MB Owners Club both on FB... all the info that you want there. Someone is even selling 'repaired' Airmatics with a guarantee. Thompson Garage in Bang Na tend to be Merc specialists. There are also 'model' clubs eg MB E-Class W213 club. If you are out of warranty dealerships maybe should be your last choice...

I ship a lot of car parts here (mainly for European makes, orders from my customers), only was charged import duty once or twice over years. In the normal situation ie pre-covid it usually takes 15-20 days for parts to arrive, now I'm waiting for 3 packages (ironically 2 of them are for Mercedes cars) that have left Europe in mid-July and are still in transit.

Sounds as though he didn't buy the used parts because he wouldn't have anyone to do the work.  He said that he did get the work done at Mercedes here, he didn't say that they fitted used parts from eBay.

I'm pretty sure that is not what he is saying, in fact, he specifically states that no one here would fit used parts.  If Mercedes had agreed to fit them then he would have had someone to do the work.

I worked for MB UK in a parts department for many years. I can assure you an official MB dealer would never fit used parts no matter what country you were in. Most of the used parts on the market when I worked there were from written off vehicles bought at auctions by those in the know. At that time MB wrote of vehicles that most other manufactures would have repaired and put back on the road. Due to the very expensive costs of new parts the second spares business for MB parts was and probably still is a very profitable business to be in.
